Hi all, former Tokyo JET (2015-2020) here. You may have seen me lurking around these parts in search of jobs, but now I\u2019m happy to offer some! The company I work for, Discover Deep Japan, is looking to fill a few positions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s some info I\u2019m copying from an older listing:\u00a0\u00a0\u201cDiscover Deep Japan is a social startup with a mission to build a more inclusive world. DDJ\u2019s multicultural team revitalizes rural communities through destination development\/marketing & product marketing in foreign languages, making communities and local culture (products) more accessible and inclusive for people with diverse backgrounds.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basically, it\u2019s a different kind of company than the ones you typically see advertised here. As a startup, we tend to be much more flexible than your typical 9-5, and especially compared to your typical Japanese company, there is much more of an opportunity to really take an active role in your work. It\u2019s a very progressive, transparent sort of place, but not the kind of job where you should expect to wait around until you are told what to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

For those who got tired of the desk warming and acting as tape recorders on JET, this may be a welcome change. It also means that people have to take personal responsibility for what they do, and perform at a high level. From what I\u2019ve been told it can get rather busy at times, but as a rule we only work four days a week. This was a big selling point for me personally, after getting burned out by constant overtime at a traditional Japanese company. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have two offices, in Yuzawa (Niigata) and Asakura (Fukuoka), but we have staff outside those offices who mostly telework, and we may be able to offer some flexibility depending on the position and the candidate. Otherwise, it\u2019s a great way to get back to the inaka in a non-teaching position, if you prefer that sort of lifestyle. In addition to these, we are also looking for additional marketing help in Asakura, as well as other qualified candidates with managerial\/leadership experience.
