Stacy starts her day by watching\u00a0Fujisankei\u2019s newscast in Japanese, and here she offers some interesting tidbits and trends along with her\u00a0own observations.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/kotoshinokanji-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46513\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/kotoshinokanji-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/kotoshinokanji-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/kotoshinokanji-1-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption>2020\u5e74\u306e\u6f22\u5b57<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We have come to the end of this crazy Covid year, and that means it&#8217;s time for \u4eca\u5e74\u306e\u6f22\u5b57 (<em>kotoshi no kanji<\/em>, or kanji of the year).  \u5bc6 (<em>mitsu<\/em>, or close, dense and crowded) was selected, reflecting <a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2020\/03\/30\/wijt-life-340-coronavirus-in-japan\/#more-45709\" class=\"aioseop-link\">Japan&#8217;s initial response<\/a> to the virus by promoting avoidance of \u4e09\u3064\u306e\u5bc6 (<em>mitsu no mitsu<\/em> or <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/news\/2020\/12\/01\/national\/sanmitsu-japan-buzzword\/\" class=\"aioseop-link\">sanmitsu<\/a><\/em>).  These are also known as the 3Cs, and refer to \u5bc6\u9589 (<em>mippei,<\/em> or confined, poorly ventilated spaces), \u5bc6\u96c6 (<em>misshuu<\/em>, or crowds of people) and \u5bc6\u63a5 (<em>missetsu<\/em>, or close-contact settings).  Japan was able to control infection rates to an extent this way, but as in the U.S. there are worries of a surge early next year as a result of gathering during the \u5e74\u672b\u5e74\u59cb (<em>nenmatsu nenshi<\/em>, or year-end holidays).
