Beginning Feb.\n29, La MaMa Experimental Theatre Clubwill stage the U.S. premiere of\n\u201cOne Green Bottle\u201d from writer\/director\/star Hideki Noda, artistic director of\nthe Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2018One Green\nBottle\u2019\u201d is a slapstick comedy about a family of three that collapses in the\nspan of one evening,\u201d explains Noda. An absurdist gender-bending farce that illustrates\nour current selfie society’s relationship with consumerism and modern\ntechnology through one night in the life of a disordered family on\nthe road to ruin, the play stars Noda (playing Boo, the mother of the family)\nwith Lilo Baur (Bo, the father) and Glyn Pritchard (daughter Pickle). The\nEnglish translation is adapted by Will Sharpe and features music based on\nJapanese noh and kabuki traditions, performed by Genichiro Tanaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn today\u2019s\ninternet society, the information we receive is actually becoming more and more\ncatered towards what we like, as opposed to the general perception that the\nworld is saturated with too much information,\u201d says Noda. \u201cThe more we receive\nthis customized information and get into what we like, the more we are becoming\nlike a \u2018society of narcissists.\u2019 That is why I would like to have as many diverse audiences as\npossible come to see my play.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show\noriginally premiered in London in 2018, where it was called \u201cenjoyably zany\u201d by\n\u201cThe Telegraph.\u201d Noda\u2019s critically acclaimed production of \u201cThe Bee\u201d was\npresented in 2012 by Japan Society as part of the Under the Radar Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
