While\nvisiting Universal Studios Japan in Osaka during its inaugural year in 2001, I\nwas struck by the global appeal that the movies have on us all. A recent trip\nto Universal Studios Hollywood (USH) stirred the same feelings, but I was also\nreminded of the relationship between Japan and some of the world\u2019s biggest\nentertainment franchises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The park\u2019s newest attraction is Jurassic\nWorld: The Ride, which opened earlier this summer and stars Chris Pratt and\nmany of the dinosaurs from the previous two films. This USH\nexclusive is an update of the original \u201cJurassic Park\u201d ride and 1993 film,\nwhich was so popular at the time of its release that \u201cWeird Al\u201d Yankovic\nrecorded a Japanese version of his parody song that same year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then there\u2019s\nthe Transformers. First launched by toymakers Hasbro and Takara with Toei\nAnimation producing the original 1984 animated series, the iconic Optimus\nPrime, Megatron and Bumblebee were reimagined for a new generation in the\nMichael Bay-directed live-action films, culminating in Transformers: The Ride 3D,\na dynamic, motion-based indoor battle to save the world from the Decepticons\nwith special effects by Industrial Light & Magic, putting you on the front\nline of the action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, there\u2019s the world-famous Studio Tour, serving\nas the park\u2019s namesake since 1964. Offering an instant course in 100 years of\nfilm history, this ride-within-a-ride\u2019s centerpiece is King Kong 360 3D, a\nsignature attraction created under the direction of Peter Jackson and Weta\nDigital that combines\nthrilling visceral effects with cutting edge rotational projection, climaxing\nwith a titanic battle between a 25\u2019 tall Kong and a 35\u2019 tall voracious dinosaur\n(not Godzilla, but that movie drops next year).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
