Position: Researcher \/ Assistant Correspondent (full-time or part-time)<\/p>\n

General Description:
\nThe Mainichi Newspapers Los Angeles Bureau seeks a full time Researcher \/ Assistant Correspondent. The Mainichi Newspapers is a major daily Japanese newspaper printed in Japan with over 4 million readers. \u00a0Founded in 1872, it is the oldest national daily newspaper in Japan.<\/p>\n

Responsibilities:
\n\u2022 Coordinating with Japanese news correspondent in gathering news and developing articles.
\n\u2022 General proofreading.
\n\u2022 Researching and gathering news, conducting interviews, developing and maintaining news sources, covering press conferences and other events including taking photos.
\n\u2022 Administrative duties are included.<\/p>\n

Job Requirements:
\n\u2022 Must have a keen interest in and understanding of U.S. current events.
\n\u2022 Must be a native English speaker able to speak and write effectively in English.
\n\u2022 Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and good instincts.
\n\u2022 Must be detail-oriented and research savvy.
\n\u2022 Must be highly motivated in journalism and bring up ideas for news reporting.
\n\u2022 Ability to analyze news stories to see what is interesting and newsworthy.
\n\u2022 Persistent in achieving goals and objectives under deadlines.
\n\u2022 Must be available to work on weekend and\/or irregular hours if needed.
\n\u2022 Must have B.A. minimum. Research experience is crucial.<\/p>\n

Preferred Skills:
\n\u2022 Japanese-speaking applicants and\/or those familiar with Japanese culture and media.
\n\u2022 Knowledge of law\/criminal justice.
\n\u2022 Interest or experience in sports.
\n\u2022 Rapid typing for taking notes and creating transcripts.<\/p>\n

Start date: Early July 2017
\nLocation: Brentwood (Los Angeles, CA)
\nCompensation: $2,500\/month (negotiable) after all applicable federal and state deductions and withholdings<\/p>\n
