PROGRAM:\u00a0The ETS Program identifies, selects and assists low-income high school youth, ages 11 and older who have the potential to be the first generation in their family to attend college. We support middle school and high school students to continue their education and graduate. Furthermore, we support and encourage high students and adults to enroll in 4-year\u00a0<\/span><\/span>institutions. ETS is committed to creating supportive relationships with students and providing safe environments for students to grow personally and academically. ETS is committed to:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Providing academic and advising services at school sites and in the community;<\/span><\/li>\n

  3. Assisting and acting as resource to all who are interested in continuing their education;<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Collaborating with the JCYC College Access Programs to sponsor events, develop staff training and assess our programs.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    DESCRIPTION:\u00a0The High School Educational Advisor will be responsible for the\u00a0identification, selection, and counseling of participants at Philip & Sala Burton High School, located in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood. These participants will fulfill the eligibility criteria as set by the U.S. DOE for all Talent Search Projects.     SUPERVISORS: Tyla Brown, Associate Director and Emalyn Lapus, Director of College Access Programs<\/span><\/p>\n

    COMPENSATION:\u00a0$38K annual, full-time 40hrs\/week, non-exempt position; Generous benefits, including full medical, dental, vision, retirement plan, paid vacation and sick; some evenings & weekends required<\/span><\/p>\n

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:<\/span><\/p>\n

    Direct Service\/Outreach<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Recruit, identify and select participants according to the following eligibility guidelines:<\/span>\n
        \n
      1. Low-income according to the U.S. DOE income levels;<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Have the potential to be first in their family to attend college;<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. Interested in pursuing programs of post-secondary education.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
      4. Assess and determine participants’ educational needs and academic potential;<\/span><\/li>\n
      5. Conduct small\/large group presentations and\/or events about college, financial aid and career awareness; Organize and implement educational\/financial aid events such as Cash for College, etc.;<\/span><\/li>\n
      6. Provide college and financial aid advising to individuals and groups to encourage participants to complete secondary school and enroll in post-secondary schools;<\/span><\/li>\n
      7. Coordinate and chaperone local\/long-distance field trips (i.e. college campus, cultural events);<\/span><\/li>\n
      8. Provide support to target SFUSD high school counseling staff to collaborate school and community events.<\/span><\/li>\n
      9. Assist participants in applying for admission or re-enrollment to secondary schools and\/or post-secondary schools;<\/span><\/li>\n
      10. Refer participants to appropriate social service and government agencies;<\/span><\/li>\n
      11. Advocate and assist participants with college admissions, financial <\/span>aid and other community resources.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Administrative<\/span><\/p>\n

          \n
        1. Maintain and complete participants’ files with all required documents;<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Manage a caseload of up to 250 to 300 high school students as defined by program guidelines;<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Assist Sr. High School Educational Advisor in the organization, coordination, and\/or implementation of collaborative events with its sister college access programs, UB and SFCAC, and\/or SFUSD<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Other Program Participation<\/span><\/p>\n

            \n
          1. Participate in community outreach events, college fairs, conferences, and <\/span>trainings;<\/span><\/li>\n
          2. Participate in JCYC College Access program meetings, activities, <\/span>committees and conferences are required;<\/span><\/li>\n
          3. Participate in advocacy initiatives prioritized by JCYC;<\/span><\/li>\n
          4. Support program specific civic engagement activities to ensure participants understand the importance of participating in the democratic process.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            JOB QUALIFICATIONS:<\/span>
            \n\u2022 Bachelor’s Degree and one or more years working with youth<\/span>
            \n\u2022 Strong organizational and follow-through skills. Attention to detail<\/span>
            \n\u2022 Experience with conducting presentations and activity planning<\/span>
            \n\u2022 Effective verbal and written communication skills<\/span>
            \n\u2022 Computer Literate; Working proficiency of MS Word, Excel, <\/span>Power Point and other presentation tools<\/span><\/p>\n

            DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:<\/span>
            \n\u2022 Individuals with similar background to target population, low-income and first in their families to attend college<\/span><\/p>\n

            \u2022 Experience with diverse student populations<\/span>
            \n\u2022 Bilingual preferred (e.g. Cantonese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog)<\/span>
            \n\u2022 Knowledge of community activities, resources, and programs for youth in San Francisco<\/span>
            \n\u2022 Ability to work cooperatively with secondary school faculty and community agency personnel<\/span><\/p>\n
