(CPC) is to serve the Chinese-American, immigrant and low-income communities in New York City by providing services, skills and resources towards economic self-sufficiency.\u00a0CPC&#8217;s Adult Literacy Program opened its doors to students in 1998 as an expansion of the successful Workforce Development Division. The impetus for the creation of a literacy program came from the community, by members who were determined to overcome the language barrier in order to assimilate into the American mainstream.
