Started in 1965, the mission of the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) is to serve the Chinese-American, immigrant and low-income communities in New York City by providing services, skills and resources towards economic self-sufficiency.\u00a0CPC’s Adult Literacy Program opened its doors to students in 1998 as an expansion of the successful Workforce Development Division. The impetus for the creation of a literacy program came from the community, by members who were determined to overcome the language barrier in order to assimilate into the American mainstream. Over the last decade, we have experienced enormous growth, both in the number of students we serve and in the scope of our offerings.<\/span><\/p>\n
