New York Seikatsu Press is looking for an English page editor. The\u00a0Shukan NY Seikatsu (\u9031\u520aNY\u751f\u6d3b) paper has broad readership in the United\u00a0States and Japan. This position is ideal for someone interested in\u00a0journalism, editing, and Japanese-English translation. The applicant\u00a0must be able to commute into New York City once per week.\u00a0Prior professional translation and journalism experience is\u00a0recommended, but not required.<\/span><\/p>\n

Responsibilities:<\/strong>\u00a0(all once per week)<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Most SNYS English articles are translations from the previous week\u2019s issues. In this case, the editor<\/span>\n
      \n
    • revises the translations for quality<\/span><\/li>\n
    • reorders the article as necessary to meet American journalistic writing<\/span><\/li>\n
    • proofreads using the New York Times\u2019 style guide (a copy is on-site)<\/span><\/li>\n
    • trims or adds to articles to fit their allotted space.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
    • Coordinating with and hiring columnists as needed.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Managing the English page\u2019s weekly social media (at present, only Twitter).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Compensation:\u00a0<\/strong>There is some monetary recompense from SNYS (about $50\/week). The position fits well into any resume and Ryoichi Miura (CEO and Editor-in-Chief) is a great professional reference.<\/span><\/p>\n
