The AD reports to the India, Japan and Vietnam Programs Manager based\u00a0in Washington, DC, and works with the Resident Director, teachers, and staff of OGU\u2019s International Center.\u00a0Excellent communication, leadership and team work skills are essential.\u00a0General responsibilities include managing CET\u2019s Japanese language teachers, creating training seminars,\u00a0assisting students outside of class on academic matters, drafting academic plans for upcoming semesters, teaching Japanese language classes, designing and directing each term&#8217;s academic orientation session, and\u00a0contributing to the CET Japan Three-Year Plan.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the AD must work together with Resident Director and OGU staff to ensure the quality of the program activities, on-going orientations, non-CET courses, and roommate program.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>CET Academic Programs is a study abroad organization based in Washington, DC that has been designing\u00a0and administering innovative educational programs abroad since 1982. Originally \u201cChina Educational Tours,\u201d\u00a0CET began operations in Beijing, later expanding to other cities in China and then to other countries around\u00a0the world. Today, CET offers semester and summer study abroad programs in Brazil, China, the Czech\u00a0Republic, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Tunisia and Vietnam, as well as short-term, customized programs worldwide.\u00a0CET is known for high academic standards, innovative approaches to teaching and careful student\u00a0management. CET programs integrate students into their overseas communities and lead them to create\u00a0lasting relationships with their local hosts. CET is the only US provider to house its students with local\u00a0roommates in each of its locations. As an environmentally conscientious organization, CET adopts locally\u00a0appropriate measures in its centers worldwide to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to sustainable\u00a0practices wherever possible. Staffed by over 50 full-time employees in the United States and overseas, CET\u00a0currently sends around 1100 US students abroad annually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong>The responsibilities of the AD include, but are not limited, to the following.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oversee program curriculum<\/li>\n<li>Recruit, hire, and train Japanese teachers in cooperation with OGU<\/li>\n<li>Lead the creation of syllabi and other teaching materials<\/li>\n<li>Supervise and evaluate teaching, creatively solve day-to-day curricular problems<\/li>\n<li>Design and implement new activities, practical and traveling seminars which support classroom goals<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate all language classes, including attendance, grading standards, and teacher assignments,<\/li>\n<li>Maintain, enforce and uphold language pledge during summer term<\/li>\n<li>Maintain office hours for faculty and students<\/li>\n<li>Improve upon current systems for student placement, examination, and general learning<\/li>\n<li>Report final recommendations concerning the program to DC-based staff<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to CET Japan Three Year Plan with specific academic goals and vision<\/li>\n<li>Serve as liaison<\/li>\n<li>Represent CET in its dealings with university faculty and administrators<\/li>\n<li>Represent student needs to CET and the host institution(s)<\/li>\n<li>Communicate regularly with CET&#8217;s head office, submitting written reports<\/li>\n<li>Coordinate work with on-site staff by participating in weekly meetings<\/li>\n<li>Teach\/counsel students<\/li>\n<li>Teach Japanese language classes as needed<\/li>\n<li>Serve as language and culture resource to students<\/li>\n<li>Assist RD as necessary with the Japanese roommate interface<\/li>\n<li>Suggest activities that correspond to program goals<\/li>\n<li>Conduct student academic orientation and serve as on-going resource for student questions<\/li>\n<li>Troubleshoot student issues<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Requirements (in order or priority):<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Master&#8217;s degree in a relevant discipline (Ph.D. preferred)<\/li>\n<li>Considerable experience (professional or academic) in Japan and US<\/li>\n<li>Fluency in Japanese and English<\/li>\n<li>Experience working with students in a cross-cultural context<\/li>\n<li>Excellent management and organizational skills<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team<\/li>\n<li>Superior time management skills<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to wear different hats and work odd hours<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated commitment to education and study abroad<\/li>\n<li>Sensitivity to student needs and cultural differences<\/li>\n<li>Sense of humor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Salary\u00a0and Benefits:\u00a0<\/strong>While this is a time-consuming, challenging position, CET firmly supports a healthy work-life balance, and\u00a0provides all staff with ample paid time off and other benefits.
