{"id":38073,"date":"2015-07-07T08:35:43","date_gmt":"2015-07-07T12:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=38073"},"modified":"2015-07-08T08:01:00","modified_gmt":"2015-07-08T12:01:00","slug":"job-esl-instructor-royal-roads-university-international-study-centre-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2015\/07\/07\/job-esl-instructor-royal-roads-university-international-study-centre-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Job: ESL Instructor &#8211; Royal Roads University International Study Centre (Canada)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>Posted by\u00a0<strong>Sydney Sparrow<\/strong>,\u00a0curriculum and\u00a0content developer for a\u00a0real estate school<\/em><em>\u00a0based in Virginia.\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"https:\/\/groups.google.com\/forum\/?hl=en&amp;fromgroups#%21forum\/jetwitjobs\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a>\u00a0to join\u00a0the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"https:\/\/groups.google.com\/forum\/?hl=en&amp;fromgroups#%21forum\/jetwitjobs\" target=\"_blank\">JETwit Jobs Google Group<\/a>\u00a0and receive job listings even sooner by email.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em><strong>Position:<\/strong>\u00a0ESL Instructor<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Posted by:<\/strong>\u00a0Royal Roads University International Study Centre (ISC)<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0Canada<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Status:<\/strong>\u00a0Full-Time<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overview:\u00a0<\/strong>The ESL Instructor delivers the English Language and Study Skills courses at the ISC, preparing international students for engagement and success in degree programs and supporting their language and skills during their studies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start Date:\u00a0<\/strong>September 2015<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teaching a maximum of 22 hours per week (full-time) to groups of international students<\/li>\n<li>Preparing appropriately for these teaching responsibilities in terms of lesson planning and the provision of appropriate teaching materials<\/li>\n<li>Establish, promote and maintain a focused and productive classroom learning environment<\/li>\n<li>Writing student assignments and end of course examinations and related mark schemes to deadlines announced by the Head of English<\/li>\n<li>Undertaking the regular marking of student work and providing students with substantial and serviceable feedback on that work<\/li>\n<li>Participating fully in the summative assessment of students through the marking of assignments, in-semester tests and final course examinations<\/li>\n<li>Providing formal, written reports on students\u2019 progress to the Centre -Director both mid- semester and at the end of each semester<\/li>\n<li>Providing the Centre Director with informal feedback on individual students, as required<\/li>\n<li>Supplying final course marks in a timely fashion to the Head of English for the end of semester Examination Boards<\/li>\n<li>Supporting the review and development of the English and Study Skills curriculum as offered within the Centre<\/li>\n<li>Assisting in the in-Centre assessment of the language level of arriving students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Overall:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meeting Study Group\u2019s professional and personal standards as set out in the staff handbook<\/li>\n<li>Fostering a positive and constructive approach among staff<\/li>\n<li>Promoting student conduct in line with policies detailed in the student handbook<\/li>\n<li>Taking responsibility for mentoring and monitoring the progress of a group of 20 students for a further hour a week, the academic advisory sessions, and preparing appropriately for these sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Experience Required:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Specialist qualifications in the area of English language teaching to speakers of other languages.
