You will assist the London-based correspondents with researching and preparing articles published in our print newspaper and our Japanese and English websites. You will also be responsible for the day-to-day running of the office.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must be native English speakers and have a good command of spoken and written Japanese (preferably Japanese-Language Proficiency Test level N1, degree level, or equivalent). You should also be able to demonstrate a keen interest in news and current affairs, politics and, ideally, economics. Previous journalistic experience is not necessary, while proficiency in other European languages is desirable.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Following breaking news and current affairs<\/li>\n<li>Attending press briefings and meetings<\/li>\n<li>Conducting interviews over the phone and in person<\/li>\n<li>Assisting the planning of overseas trips by the correspondents<\/li>\n<li>Assisting correspondents relocating from Japan to the UK and vice versa<\/li>\n<li>Managing office social media accounts<\/li>\n<li>Managing day-to-day office administration<\/li>\n<li>Translation from Japanese to English<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Native-level English and advanced Japanese<\/li>\n<li>Strong interest in news and current affairs<\/li>\n<li>Strong research skills, with focus on accuracy and attention to detail<\/li>\n<li>Good timekeeping and ability to work to deadlines<\/li>\n<li>Good communication skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Other European languages<\/li>\n<li>Good understanding of economics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application Process:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please send your CV (in English &amp; Japanese) and a cover letter (in English; max. 2 pages) to: <a href=\"mailto:mainichi.london@gmail.com\">mainichi.london@gmail.com<\/a> with \u2018Assistant Correspondent\u2019 in the subject line.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for applications is \u00a017:00, Tuesday 30<sup>th<\/sup> June.
