Description:<\/p>\n

The Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, is seeking an English Advisor\/Editor.<\/p>\n

Duties include the following:<\/p>\n

\u30fbproofreading, editing, and\/or drafting speeches and statements written in English on a wide range of issues to be delivered primarily at the conferences of the United Nations and its specialized agencies as well as other Geneva-based international organizations, including the Human Rights Council<\/p>\n

\u30fbwriting\/editing various correspondence from the Mission, including press releases, letters, documents, etc.<\/p>\n

\u30fbadvising diplomats on the appropriate wording and tone on diplomatically sensitive issues<\/p>\n

\u30fbsome translation of speeches or documents from Japanese to English<\/p>\n

\u30fbaccompanying diplomats to UN meetings to assist them in gathering information<\/p>\n

Qualifications:<\/p>\n

Candidates must be native English speakers.<\/p>\n

In addition, they must:<\/p>\n

\u30fbhave impeccable English grammar, proofreading, writing, and editing skills. Professional experience a plus.<\/p>\n

\u30fbbe computer literate, especially Windows XP, Outlook, and Word.<\/p>\n

\u30fbhave a university degree in English, journalism, international relations, Japan Studies, or other related field. Graduate degree a plus.<\/p>\n

\u30fbhave at least 2-kyu level qualification on the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test.<\/p>\n

\u30fbhave a strong interest in international affairs and current events.<\/p>\n

\u30fbhave an eagerness to live and work overseas in an international environment. Experience a plus.<\/p>\n

Desirable but not necessary:<\/p>\n

\u30fbprior experience working with a Japanese organization<\/p>\n

\u30fbprior professional experience translating from Japanese to English<\/p>\n

\u30fbFrench language ability<\/p>\n

Candidates will be assessed on their writing and translating ability as well as level of experience and education.<\/p>\n

Compensation:<\/p>\n

Starting salary will depend on educational level and experience.<\/p>\n

Health insurance is covered in part by the Mission.<\/p>\n

Pension Program available.<\/p>\n

Relocation costs will not be covered by the Mission.<\/p>\n

No housing allowance will be given.<\/p>\n
