The program is focused on the acquisition of\u00a0Japanese\u00a0language and culture in an immersion setting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ANTICIPATED EMPLOYMENT DATES:<\/strong>\u00a0Early June &#8211; August 2015<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Resident Directors represent American Councils on programs overseas. The Resident Director will work with the host institution, managing communications between American Councils, program participants and local staff, arranging logistics for the group, advising participants as required and resolving medical and other issues as necessary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Resident Director must be available to program participants on a daily basis; observe classes at the host institution; meet regularly with teachers, administrators, and participants; and arrange group travel and cultural programs.\u00a0The\u00a0Resident Director must be available to participants during any emergencies that arise and must communicate regularly with the American Councils program staff in Washington, DC.\u00a0The\u00a0Resident Director\u00a0oversees\u00a0a small program budget, and\u00a0is\u00a0responsible for proper documentation of program expenditures and timely completion of a budget report at the end of each month and end of the program.<br \/>\nPrior to departure,\u00a0the\u00a0Resident Director\u00a0is\u00a0required to complete an orientation program for\u00a0overseasstaff.\u00a0The\u00a0Resident Director may be asked to travel with\u00a0his\/her\u00a0participant group at the beginningand end\u00a0of the program; the\u00a0Resident Directors\u00a0may also\u00a0be asked to travel to the program site in advance of the students\u2019 arrival. Resident Directors report to the DC-based Program Manager and staff.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>All offers are contingent upon ability to receive and maintain a visa to the host country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Advising program participants as needed;<\/li>\n<li>Reporting on program activities to program staff in Washington, D.C;<\/li>\n<li>Responding to participant emergencies, including assisting participants with navigating local clinics and hospitals;<\/li>\n<li>Liaising with the host institution and local program staff;<\/li>\n<li>Observing the academic program;<\/li>\n<li>Arranging group travel and cultural programs;<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining adherence to program rules and policies among participants\u2014this may include a no-English policy;<\/li>\n<li>Managing a small budget of program funds and maintaining detailed financial documentation, including monthly reports;<\/li>\n<li>Communicating with host families and working with students and local staff to resolve any programs related to host families;<\/li>\n<li>Tagging photographs and videos collected from students and local CLS staff;<\/li>\n<li>Completing a pre-departure orientation and training session;<\/li>\n<li>Resolving other program-related issues as necessary; and<\/li>\n<li>Performing other program-related tasks as directed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Working with host families, which may include selection and monitoring of host families (varies by program);<\/li>\n<li>Resolving other program-related issues as necessary; and<\/li>\n<li>Performing other program-related tasks as directed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree or higher in Japanese, area studies or a related field;<\/li>\n<li>Advanced written and oral language skills (minimum 2\/2+ on ACTFL scale) in Japanese<\/li>\n<li>Study, work, or extensive travel experience in Japan;<\/li>\n<li>Experience working in a position of authority with high school, undergraduate, or graduate students;<\/li>\n<li>Experience overseeing and guiding groups;<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated skills in academic and personal counseling; and<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated skills in general financial accountability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Position contingent upon funding.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0American Councils for International Educations does not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factor.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Sophia Chan (Sapporo-shi, 2009-2014).
