Almond meal, whole-wheat pastry flour, and cornmeal add a toothsome bite\u00a0to the soft, sweet pears. I brought this to a potluck as dessert, but I liked it even better when I served it for brunch alongside\u00a0a frittata and baked oatmeal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #141412\">Western pears (<em>y\u00f4nashi<\/em>, \u6d0b\u306a\u3057) can be a little tricky to find in certain regions and are not available year-round; the biggest producing regions are Tohoku and\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #bc360a\" href=\"http:\/\/ja.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%E7%94%B2%E4%BF%A1%E8%B6%8A%E5%9C%B0%E6%96%B9\">Koshinetsu<\/a><span style=\"color: #141412\">, especially Niigata. Almond flour, whole-wheat pastry flour, corn meal are usually available in the baking section of supermarkets.
