The Japan Foundation\u2019s activities consist of three major programs: 1) Arts &amp; Cultural Exchange; 2) Japanese-Language Education Overseas; 3) Japanese Studies and Intellectual Exchange, including The Center for Global Partnership (CGP). The Japanese Studies program provides grants designed to enhance Japanese Studies in the US primarily at the university level and is overseen\u00a0by an American Advisory Committee (AAC).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Responsibilities:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe part-time Assistant will report to the Program Director in Japanese Studies and will contribute to the following:<br \/>\n1. Program coordination:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist in the implementation of The Japan Foundation\u2019s programs, with a particular focus on, but not limited to, institutional support and individual fellowships for Japanese Studies;<\/li>\n<li>Review letters of inquiry, proposals and reports, draft recommendations and related materials;<\/li>\n<li>Communicate with grantees and grant-seekers through written correspondence, meetings, and site visits (if necessary);<\/li>\n<li>Assist in preparing the materials for the AAC, organizing annual as well as special meetings, and producing\u00a0meeting summary reports.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">2. Foundation coordination:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coordinate various programs including in-house events such as roundtables, seminars, and outreach events;<\/li>\n<li>Participate in the development and implementation of a public relations strategy;<\/li>\n<li>Carry out other logistical and administrative duties as assigned by the Program Director and senior management\u00a0in The Japan Foundation, New York and CGP;<\/li>\n<li>Assist in the proofreading of English documents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Qualifications:<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s degree required;<\/li>\n<li>Analytical skills; ability through questioning and informal research to understand the feasibility and implications of submitted proposals and reports;<\/li>\n<li>Strong oral and written communication skills in English;<\/li>\n<li>Organizational skills and keen attention to detail;<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of contemporary Japan; experience living in Japan and proficiency in the Japanese language, including translating ability, preferred;<\/li>\n<li>Proficiency in basic software such as MS Word and Excel; database experience preferred;<\/li>\n<li>US citizenship, permanent residency visa, or valid working visa in US.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Work Hours and Days: 9:30 am-5:30 pm, 4 days (no more than 30 hours) per week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Wage: Hourly wage, commensurate with experience. No other benefits offered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Job Commencement: October 1, 2014. Initial term will be for a three-month contract, renewable for a second term,\u00a0contingent on needs and performance, through March 31, 2015.
