Overview:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Youth and Outreach Program Coordinator will be responsible for the creation and implementation of educational programming for children (K-12) activities and outreach programs. This includes children\u2019s activities at our annual festivals, special events, and Summer Tour Plus program. Must be able to work evenings and weekend events.<\/p>\n

Position Reports to:\u00a0<\/strong>Curator of Education<\/p>\n

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Create and implement museum educational programs for children and families.<\/li>\n
  • Develop, implement, and manage outreach programs.<\/li>\n
  • Develop, create, and coordinate children\u2019s (K-12) activities at our annual festivals, including the supervision of festival volunteers and managing setup and cleanup<\/li>\n
  • Work in conjunction with staff to develop, implement and oversee the Summer Tour Plus (STP) program activities.<\/li>\n
  • Supervise daily operations of STP, which also includes training and scheduling of interns and high school volunteers for the STP program.<\/li>\n
  • Assist staff in developing and implementing school programs and teacher development workshops<\/li>\n
  • Work in conjunction with staff to develop educational teaching materials and tour program contents<\/li>\n
  • Other duties as specified<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Bachelor\u2019s degree in education, art, Japanese studies or related field<\/li>\n
    • Knowledge of Japanese language and culture<\/li>\n
    • Experience in teaching and working with children (K-12)<\/li>\n
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with staff, volunteers and the public<\/li>\n
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively<\/li>\n
    • Personal transportation required for outreach programs<\/li>\n
    • Strong organizational and computer skills<\/li>\n
    • Experience working in a museum or cultural institution a plus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
