The Council administers the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #00428e\" href=\"http:\/\/usjapantomodachi.org\/get-involved\/opportunities\/www.usjapantomodachi.org\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">TOMODACHI Initiative<\/span><\/a>, a public-private partnership forged after the Great East Japan Earthquake in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo with the support of the Government of Japan. \u00a0TOMODACHI invests in the next generation of Japanese and American leaders through educational and cultural exchanges as well as leadership programs. We seek to foster a \u201cTOMODACHI generation\u201d of young American and Japanese leaders who are committed to and engaged in strengthening U.S.-Japan relations, appreciate each other\u2019s countries and cultures, and possess the global skills and mindsets needed to contribute to and thrive in a more cooperative, prosperous, and secure world.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #444444\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">We seek a talented, dynamic, bilingual individual for the position of Program Manager, TOMODACHI\u00a0Initiative. The Program Manager will be responsible for helping to select, develop, manage, monitor and evaluate TOMODACHI programs, including managing relationships with implementing partners and liaising with donors. The Program Manager will report to the Executive Director of the TOMODACHI Initiative in Tokyo and will work with individuals from the U.S.-Japan Council, the U.S. Embassy and other key TOMODACHI team members in the implementation of this mission.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"color: #00428e\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Responsibilities:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"color: #444444\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Program Development, Management, Monitoring and Donor Reporting:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"color: #444444\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Work with the TOMODACHI team to develop and manage programs; including identifying\u00a0donor needs and researching\/assessing appropriate implementing partners<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Work with implementing partners to finalize program descriptions and budgets; draft\u00a0implementer agreements and ensure they are signed, and that all documents are in place for\u00a0accountability purposes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Interface with donors to report and receive feedback on the developments of associated programs,\u00a0maximizing transparency and visibility of the uses of program funds to assigned donors\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Assist with organizing events in relation to assigned programs and\/or donors<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Actively monitor and evaluate TOMODACHI programs, including receiving timely reports from\u00a0implementing partners on programs, and distilling such information for donor reporting<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Provide timely updates on the status of programs to stakeholders, including those in the U.S.-Japan Council, the U.S. Embassy and donor companies<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Work with the marketing team to ensure web\/social media content and branding on assigned\u00a0programs is current and accurate<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Work with the Alumni Manager to support the smooth transition of TOMODACHI program\u00a0participants to alumni engagement<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Work with the U.S.-Japan Council U.S.-based team to maximize value-add for donors in both\u00a0Japan and the United States<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Other duties as assigned<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"color: #00428e\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Qualifications:<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"color: #444444\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in both Japanese and English that\u00a0will allow for easy collaboration with many different stakeholders, including corporate leaders,\u00a0government officials, NPO partners and program participants<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Self-motivation and ability to excel in a fast-paced and unstructured environment\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Exceptional organizational and program management skills, including the ability to work under\u00a0tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a team\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Demonstrated commitment to U.S-Japan relations\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Professional experience working on U.S.-Japan issues<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Experience working with youth preferred<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Event management experience preferred<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Experience working in or with the non-profit sector, preferably in Japan\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Experience in Tohoku and an existing network there is preferred<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills required<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 style=\"color: #00428e\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">To Apply:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"color: #444444\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">If qualified and interested, please<strong style=\"color: #222222\">\u00a0send your CV (resume) and cover letter to\u00a0<a style=\"color: #6611cc\" href=\"mailto:opportunities@usjapancouncil.org\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">opportunities@usjapancouncil.org<\/span><\/a>by Friday, September 5, 2014.<\/strong>\u00a0The desired position start date is Monday, October 21, 2014.
