Position Overview:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Laurasian Institution (TLI) of Seattle, WA, is seeking bilingual guides for groups of 25 participants visiting the United States from Japan during the 2014-15 school year. The groups, comprised of 23 high school or university students and 1~2 adult chaperones, are scheduled to visit the United States for a period of 10 days. Itineraries will include sightseeing in major cities, visiting schools and companies, and homestays in locations throughout the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each guide will meet his\/her group at the airport in the arrival city, lead them through orientation and scheduled activities, accompany them to their homestay location and departure city, and see them off at the airport. TLI is responsible for planning all activities, and Guides will be supported on-site in major cities by TLI staff.<\/span><\/p>\n

Description of Duties<\/span><\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n

o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Guide group through all scheduled activities, including arrival\/departure at airports, mealtimes, orientation, sightseeing, travel to\/from homestay locations, host school activities, etc.<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Ensure the group stays together at all times and adheres to the guidelines of the project<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Ensure the safety and well-being of all members of the group by handling medical or other emergency situations<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Interpreting between group members, vendors, and others throughout the trip as needed<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Plan and implement an ESL lesson for the group that will be incorporated into the orientation schedule<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Record daily activities through daily written reports and photographs<\/span><\/div>\n

Summary of Requirements<\/span><\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n

o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Native English speakers with highly functional Japanese abilities (minimum JLPT Level 2\/N2 or equivalent)<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Background in education, youth exchange, and\/or Japan-related work experience<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>All-day time commitment for 10 days, including being on-call at night<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Experience with Japanese students and\/or the Japanese school system<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Familiarity with Japanese health insurance procedures<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Residence in and knowledge of the geography, history and culture of at least one of the major cities (see list below)<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Ability to handle emergencies and work under pressure<\/span><\/div>\n
o\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Strong communication skills, both oral and written<\/span><\/div>\n
