{"id":3488,"date":"2009-02-12T21:34:35","date_gmt":"2009-02-12T21:34:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=3488"},"modified":"2009-02-12T21:38:50","modified_gmt":"2009-02-12T21:38:50","slug":"the-jetwit-business-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2009\/02\/12\/the-jetwit-business-model\/","title":{"rendered":"The JetWit Business Model?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thedigitalists.com\/2009\/02\/05\/chris-anderson-a-day-late-and-a-dollar-short\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mediabistro.com\/galleycat\/original\/wired-free-coverstory.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>&#8220;What is the JetWit business model?&#8221; some of you may have wondered.<\/p>\n<p><em>Shoujiki ni itte<\/em>, JetWit isn&#8217;t earning any income as of yet per se at the moment technically speaking (with the exception from a one-time paid ad placed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.interac.co.jp\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Interac<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>But that doesn&#8217;t mean that JetWit doesn&#8217;t want to, or can&#8217;t, earn any income.\u00a0 The site and community is certainly providing value in various ways, including helping a number of people to find work opportunities.\u00a0 It has access to terrific writing and translating talent.\u00a0 And given that JET alumni chapters are primarily focused on their own regions, JetWit is essentially the only channel for reaching JET alumni (i.e., a targeted audience of educated, Japan-savvy types) all across the U.S. as well as abroad.<\/p>\n<p>With so much going for it, it seems like one would have to be a <em>baka<\/em> to not have JetWit generating dollars (or yen).\u00a0 Since that&#8217;s exactly the case, however, there is some comfort in realizing that much larger entities struggle with the same issue of trying to earn income while giving away something for free.\u00a0 At least according to my brother <a href=\"http:\/\/thedigitalists.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Greg<\/strong><\/a> who has over 10 years of online marketing experience.<\/p>\n<p>In his post on <a href=\"http:\/\/thedigitalists.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The Digitalists<\/strong><\/a> titled <strong><a title=\"Permanent Link to Free* (or, how to give away the store without giving away the\u00a0store)\" rel=\"bookmark\" href=\"http:\/\/thedigitalists.com\/2009\/02\/10\/free-or-how-to-give-away-the-store-without-giving-away-the-store\/\">Free* (or, how to give away the store without giving away the\u00a0store)<\/a><\/strong>, Greg comments on <strong>Wired<\/strong> editor <strong>Chris Anderson&#8217;s<\/strong> new book <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Free-Past-Future-Radical-Price\/dp\/1401322905\/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1233717280&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Free<\/em><\/a><\/strong> and a possible direction the traditional model of content provider-advertiser-consumer may be shifting.<\/p>\n<p>The short post is well worth a read for everyone trying to figure out how to navigate the shifting business world (which I think includes most recent JET returnees as well as numerous alums).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;What is the JetWit business model?&#8221; some of you may have wondered.
