Overview<\/strong><\/p>\n

Allegheny College, a highly selective 4-year liberal arts institution located\u00a0in northwestern Pennsylvania, invites applications for an International\u00a0Student\/Scholar Advisor in the International Education Office now part of\u00a0the Allegheny Gateway. The Allegheny Gateway offers opportunities for\u00a0students to study, live and work abroad; encounter diverse peoples and\u00a0viewpoints; and become involved in defining and addressing real-world\u00a0problems and challenges as it prepares them for careers and graduate and\u00a0professional studies.<\/p>\n

The successful candidate for this position will advise and support the\u00a0international student and scholar community at Allegheny College and must\u00a0be familiar with immigration regulations pertaining to F-1, J-1 and H1-B\u00a0visas in a college context. In collaboration with the other offices within the\u00a0Gateway, the international student\/scholar advisor will be responsible for further developing and implementing the outreach, orientation and\u00a0retention initiatives for our international student\/scholar community and\u00a0will work to enhance cross-cultural programming efforts at the College. Supervision for this position will be provided by the Director of\u00a0International Education. This is a 12 month position with occasional night\u00a0and weekend hours.<\/p>\n

Requirements:<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Bachelor\u2019s degree and previous experience advising international\u00a0student\/scholars are required. A Master\u2019s degree is preferred. The candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge of and sensitivity to\u00a0cross-cultural issues and possess superior oral\/written communication\u00a0skills. Preference will be given to those candidates who have previously\u00a0served as advisors to international students and scholars on F-1, J-1 and\u00a0H1-B visas. Knowledge of a second language preferably Chinese is desired.\u00a0The candidate must have a valid driver\u2019s license, a good driving record and\u00a0be willing to drive passenger vans.<\/p>\n
