Fuji on the World Heritage List.\u00a0 \u8f2a received 9518 votes, and second-place <a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131207_184557-e1386981610589.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-33166\" alt=\"20131207_184557\" src=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131207_184557-e1386981610589-150x150.jpg\" width=\"161\" height=\"161\" \/><\/a>\u697d (<em>raku<\/em>) which received 8562 votes referred to the Tohoku Rakuten (\u697d\u5929) Golden Eagles&#8217; victory in the Nippon Series baseball championship.<\/p>\n<p>For those who are interested in kanji and Japanese calligraphy, I would highly recommend the current exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art entitled\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/en\/exhibitions\/listings\/2013\/brush-writing\\\">Brush <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/en\/exhibitions\/listings\/2013\/brush-writing\\\">Writing in the Arts of Japan<\/a>.\u00a0 It was interesting to learn about<!--more--> the poetry contests engaged in at court, as well as check out the ukiyo-e depicting calligraphy in the pleasure quarters.\u00a0 Pictured here is the more modern PixCell deer in front of a \u5c4f\u98a8 (<em>byobu<\/em> or folding screen) decorated with birds and flowers of the 12 months.\u00a0 Other <em>byobu<\/em> featured typical Japanese seasonal themes such as <em>momiji and sakura<\/em>, and I especially enjoyed seeing the handscrolls with illustrated portions of The Tale of Genji.\u00a0 This exhibit will be on display until January 12, so make sure to visit before it&#8217;s gone!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WIT Life is a periodic series written by professional Writer\/Interpreter\/Translator Stacy Smith (Kumamoto-ken CIR, 2000-03).\u00a0 She starts her day by watching Fujisankei\u2019s newscast in Japanese, and here she shares some of the interesting tidbits and trends along with her own observations.
