Fortunately for Japanese culture fans, December is just as busy as the holiday season itself. Whether you\u2019re hosting guests from out of town or looking to squeeze in an event or two in between parties, we\u2019ve got you covered.<\/p>\n<p>This month\u2019s highlights include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Now through Saturday, Dec. 21<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidzwirner.com\/exhibition\/yayoi-kusama-9\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Yayoi Kusama:\u00a0<em>I Who Have Arrived in Heaven<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>David Zwirner Gallery, 525 West 19th Street<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In case you missed last year\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whitney.org\/Exhibitions\/YayoiKusama\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">retrospective<\/a>at the Whitney featuring the artist\u2019s mega-buzzed about\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/whitney.org\/Exhibitions\/FirefliesOnTheWater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Fireflies on the Water<\/a><\/em>, this current exhibition by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidzwirner.com\/artists\/yayoi-kusama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Yayoi Kusama<\/a>\u00a0features 27 new large-scale paintings and\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/12\/02\/arts\/design\/yayoi-kusamas-mirrored-room-at-david-zwirner-gallery.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away<\/a><\/em>, a new mirrored infinity room made especially for this exhibition and the United States debut of another infinity room, which was recently on view in Tokyo at the Mori Art Museum. Also exhibited is the artist\u2019s video installation, entitled\u00a0<em>Manhattan Suicide Addict<\/em>, that draws its title from her first semi-autobiographical novel published in 1978.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, Dec. 4, 8:00 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/composersconcordance.wix.com\/ttfest#!threes-keys\/cjg9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><em>Three&#8217;s Keys<\/em>\u00a0feat. Taka Kigawa<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/klavierhausrecitalhall.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Klavierhaus Recital Hall<\/a>, 211 West 58th Street<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>$15<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of its third annual festival entitled\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/composersconcordance.wix.com\/2013-14season#!tt-festival\/cj5l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Timbre Tantrum<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/composersconcordance.wix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Composers Concordance<\/a>(\u201cEnterprising new music organization\u201d &#8211;<em>New York Times<\/em>) presents this all-piano production featuring\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.takakigawa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Taka Kigawa<\/a>\u00a0(&#8220;Extraordinary pianist&#8221; &#8211;<em>New York Times<\/em>),\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/innafaliks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Inna Faliks<\/a>\u00a0(&#8220;Signature blend of grace and raw power&#8221; &#8211;<em>Lucid Culture<\/em>) and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.carltonholmes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Carlton Holmes<\/a>\u00a0(&#8220;Inventive&#8221; &#8211;<em>Jazziz<\/em>). Each pianist will present a 20-minute solo set of their own contemporary repertoire, including music by Shchedrin, Zhurbin, Ellington, Palkowski, Monk, and Alexander. Entitled\u00a0<em>JAPONISM<\/em>\u00a0after his latest album, Hakase\u2019s pop-infused compositions and charismatic showmanship are known to get fans dancing at his concerts. First brought to international attention following a collaboration soundtrack and a concert tour with Celine Dion in 1996, Hakase has performed before over two million people and has sold more than six million albums in Japan alone.
