{"id":32757,"date":"2013-11-17T18:26:04","date_gmt":"2013-11-17T22:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=32757"},"modified":"2013-11-17T18:26:04","modified_gmt":"2013-11-17T22:26:04","slug":"austin-moore-beautifies-japan-starting-with-his-own-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2013\/11\/17\/austin-moore-beautifies-japan-starting-with-his-own-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Austin Moore beautifies Japan (starting with his own house)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Posted by Tom Baker (Chiba-ken, 1989-90)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clair.or.jp\/j\/forum\/forum\/pdf_279\/08_jet02.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">January 2013 edition of the \u201cJET Plaza\u201d section <\/a>of CLAIR Forum magazine included an article by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/austin-moore\/8\/141\/65a\" target=\"_blank\">Austin Moore<\/a>, who came to Japan in 1984 on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/groups\/MEFMonbusho-English-Fellows-3757582\/about\" target=\"_blank\">Monbusho English Fellow (MEF)<\/a> program, a forerunner of the JET Program.\u00a0In it, he\u00a0mentioned his work to restore a 145-year-old house in Hino, Shiga Prefecture, which led the owners of several other old houses in the neighborhood to spruce up their buildings as well.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the Wall Street Journal has taken notice. According to an article this month\u00a0by Yuka Hayashi, \u201cMr. Moore has established himself as a key member of the community, serving on its preservation society and helping promote tourism.
