{"id":3184,"date":"2009-02-03T02:16:17","date_gmt":"2009-02-03T02:16:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=3184"},"modified":"2012-02-18T17:07:20","modified_gmt":"2012-02-18T21:07:20","slug":"japanese-convenience-store-clerk-dissertation-by-jet-alum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2009\/02\/03\/japanese-convenience-store-clerk-dissertation-by-jet-alum\/","title":{"rendered":"Japanese Convenience Store Clerk Dissertation by JET Alum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently learned about an interesting JET alum named <a href=\"http:\/\/www.a-jrc.jp\/project\/fantasized_asia\/gavin-whitelaw\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Gavin Whitelaw<\/strong><\/a> (whom I&#8217;ve never met) whose doctoral dissertation at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fas.harvard.edu\/~rijs\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Harvard&#8217;s Reischauer Institute<\/strong><\/a> involved 18-months of &#8220;observant&#8221; participation as a convenience store clerk in Japan.
