{"id":3081,"date":"2009-01-29T21:34:45","date_gmt":"2009-01-29T21:34:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=3081"},"modified":"2009-01-29T21:39:23","modified_gmt":"2009-01-29T21:39:23","slug":"society-for-writers-editors-and-translators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2009\/01\/29\/society-for-writers-editors-and-translators\/","title":{"rendered":"Society for Writers, Editors and Translators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">********<\/p>\n<p>I recently learned of the existence of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swet.jp\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Society for Writers, Editors and Translators<\/strong><\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.swet.jp\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>SWET<\/strong><\/a>) (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.swet.jp\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">www.swet.jp<\/a>), a Tokyo-based group that seems to share a lot in common with <strong>JetWit<\/strong> and the <strong>Writers Interpreters Translators (WIT) Group<\/strong>&#8211;except that SWET has been in existence for 25 years!\u00a0 (Read the full history of the group <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swet.jp\/index.php\/about\/history\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 169px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swet.jp\/index.php\/publications\/jss\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pro40.abac.com\/pacificdreams\/images\/books\/ENLN02_B_stylesheet_l.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"159\" height=\"209\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">In 1998 SWET members collaboratively published the Japan Style Sheet as a guide for professional translators<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The other day I had the pleasure of meeting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ruthstevens.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Ruth Stevens<\/strong><\/a>, one of the founders of SWET who now lives in the NY area.\u00a0 She introduced me (via email) to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/search-handle-url\/ref=ntt_athr_dp_sr_3?_encoding=UTF8&amp;search-type=ss&amp;index=books&amp;field-author=Lynne%20E.%20Riggs\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Lynne Riggs<\/strong><\/a>, the co-founder and current organizer of SWET, who in turn introduced me to SWET webmaster <a href=\"http:\/\/www.i-sako.com\/index.php\/weblog\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Sako Eaton<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, we were all happy to learn of each others&#8217; existence, and I wanted to make sure to let all the JET alumni and Friend of JET readers out there know about SWET (which, amusingly, has &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.swet.jp\/index.php\/merchandise\/\" target=\"_blank\">SWET Shirts<\/a>&#8221; for sale on their website).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to a terrific website, SWET also has an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swet.jp\/index.php\/resources\/lists\/\" target=\"_blank\">e-mail list<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swet.jp\/index.php\/resources\/rss\/\" target=\"_blank\">RSS feed<\/a> that are free.\u00a0 You can also sign up for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swet.jp\/index.php\/about\/membership\/\" target=\"_blank\">SWET membership<\/a> for 5,000 yen or $50\/year which entitles you to receive their newsletter containing various info and articles that do not appear elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>I look forward to future collaboration with the SWET folks.\u00a0 (You&#8217;ll notice there&#8217;s already a sidebar widget for SWET with the RSS feed from their site.)
