Responsibilities:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Academic Program Management (30%):<br \/>\n\u2022Develop and implement a curriculum within the context of Stanford University\u2019s academic organization and standards, in coordination with home office senior staff and faculty.\u00a0 Launch new and innovative courses that make use of the unique opportunities in Kyoto and academic resources at Doshisha University.<br \/>\n\u2022Identify, hire, evaluate, and coordinate local faculty to lecture and teach seminar courses or tutorials at an appropriate academic level, bearing in mind differences between American and Japanese styles of instruction.<br \/>\n\u2022Promote interaction among local faculty and between local faculty and visiting Stanford professors, especially in discussions of pedagogy and curricular issues.<br \/>\n\u2022In collaboration with the home office, develop student application criteria, evaluate applications, and prioritize waitlists.<br \/>\n\u2022Manage a language teaching program.<br \/>\n\u2022Teach one course per quarter, including field trips where appropriate.<br \/>\n\u2022Provide academic advising for students.<br \/>\n\u2022Help supervise research projects, independent study, or individual directed reading.<br \/>\n\u2022Develop and implement a guest lecture program coordinated with the particular quarter\u2019s curriculum.<br \/>\n\u2022Manage timely and accurate reporting of student grades.<\/p>\n<p>Student Life Oversight (20%):<br \/>\n\u2022Maintain a regular presence at the Center in order to provide advice, counseling and resources to students on a variety of matters related to their academic, intellectual and personal well-being.<br \/>\n\u2022Oversee the coordination of student living arrangements.\u00a0 Provide leadership in execution of orientation programs for incoming students.<br \/>\n\u2022In collaboration with campus student affairs staff and the Bing Overseas Studies Program, respond to unpredictable personal, health, psychological and academic problems, and do so with sensitivity and understanding of Stanford\u2019s institutional concerns and Japan\u2019s contextual background.<br \/>\n\u2022Define objectives of social and cultural events for students and general oversight.\u00a0\u00a0 Maintain discipline at the Center, where necessary, and handle student emergencies including responding to parental concerns.<br \/>\n\u2022Establish and oversee clear access to local, English-speaking mental and physical health professionals.<br \/>\n\u2022Maintain awareness of the mental and physical health and well-being of student participants including regular consultation with the home campus as needed.<br \/>\n\u2022Facilitate student involvement in community service activities.<\/p>\n<p>Management of Internship Opportunities (15%):<br \/>\n\u2022Nurture high level relationships with business organizations, govt. agencies and non-profit organization that may lead to the placement of interns<br \/>\n\u2022Manage Internship Coordinator to further develop internship opportunities and sites at Japanese and multinational firms (approximately 50 Stanford students concentrating primarily in engineering, finance, management, international relations, social sciences)<br \/>\n\u2022Manage placement of students in internships in their field of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Management of Professional Staff (15%):<br \/>\n\u2022Supervises 3 administrative members of the Kyoto overseas office, overseeing performance appraisal, objective setting, work load, and professional development.
