Overview:<\/b>
\nFounded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.\u00a0 Domestically, our 23 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n

The IRC New York Resettlement office\u2019s Adult Education program provides free classes and educational services to our adult clients. These individuals, mainly refugees and asylees, are legal immigrants who are victims of war, persecution, and civil conflict. They have diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. Moreover, they are highly adaptable, usually multilingual, and eager to start rebuilding their lives in America. At the IRC, they may enroll in on-site English classes, attend cultural orientation sessions, participate in workshops, and register for external educational opportunities.<\/p>\n

Responsibilities: <\/b>
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Teach either beginner or intermediate ESL class 3 days per week (MWF 10-12)
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Implement interactive, learner-centered activities into instruction and select appropriate materials from IRC\u2019s curriculum
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Communicate with the Adult Education team and program coordinator about individual client progress
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Enroll and evaluate adult students, document attendance and student progress
\nAttend regular meetings with the program coordinator and Adult Education Intern<\/p>\n

Requirements: <\/b>
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Experience teaching Adults and English language learners
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Comfort working with refugees from various backgrounds, including those with limited formal education
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Comfort teaching in an open enrollment and multi-level classroom
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Excellent classroom management skills and confidence facilitating both large and small groups
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ability to adapt to changing situations, comfortable working in a fast-paced, demanding environment
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Proficient at MS Office suite
\n\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Responsible, flexible, dedicated and reliable: will commit to term and hours listed above<\/p>\n
