The Japanese House and Garden is a 17<sup>th<\/sup> century style Japanese house in the west section of Fairmount  Park.\u00a0 This position is an integral part of the museum&#8217;s day-to-day operations and serves an important role in interacting with the public and as a liaison with other professional staff members. This position is ideal for a person who has earned a college degree or has significant life experience.\u00a0 The successful candidate must also have a strong interest in and\/or knowledge of Japan, Asian studies, museum studies, education or the hospitality industry.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"unIndentedList\">\n<li> Must be available to work 5 days per week, Wednesday-Sunday.<\/li>\n<li> Hours: Wednesday-Friday 9-5; Saturday and Sunday 10-5<\/li>\n<li> Evening work for staffing special events will be required.<\/li>\n<li> This seasonal position begins March 3, 2009 and ends on Oct. 31, 2009.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Site Manager is responsible for:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>for      the daily operation of the Japanese House and Garden<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>working      with the public as an &#8220;ambassador&#8221; for the Japanese House and Garden<\/li>\n<li>providing      security for the house and garden during open hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>working      as a liaison between the site staff and the Executive Director, requires      excellent communications skills<\/li>\n<li>working      with the Manger of Education to coordinate seasonal staff with school and      day camp programs<\/li>\n<li>supervising      and scheduling 3 full time seasonal employees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>providing      supervision for tours of the house and garden to groups and casual      visitors<\/li>\n<li>organizing      all supplies for provide supervision of hands-on activities about Japanese      culture for children and adult visitors<\/li>\n<li>assisting      the Tea Master with the set up for tea ceremonies and other workshops,      direct the work of seasonal staff who will assist the Tea Master<\/li>\n<li>supervising      the staffing and daily set up and take down of the gift shop.<\/li>\n<li>doing all      the buying for the gift shop and manage the shop budget<\/li>\n<li>supervising      the collection of admission fees, receive phone calls, make reservations      and manage the reservations calendar<\/li>\n<li>assisting      in the organization of special events such as Summer Festival, evening      parties and weddings<\/li>\n<li>coordinating      and scheduling the staff and volunteers for all special events and      workshops<\/li>\n<li>providing      supervision and staff support for weddings and other rentals<\/li>\n<li>assisting      in maintaining the house and garden including supervising seasonal      employees who will do routine cleaning<\/li>\n<li>assisting      with membership and development activities including mailings<\/li>\n<li>other      duties as assigned<\/li>\n<li>this      is a salaried position &#8211; $18,000<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reporting Relationships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This position reports directly to the Executive Director.\u00a0 However, the position works very closely with the Manger of Education and Membership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Desired Competencies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oral communications &#8211; Will have an interest in working with the public and strives to present the best possible attitude when presenting information about the organization.\u00a0 This person should enjoy working with both children and adults.\u00a0 Able to successfully give directions\/instructions to seasonal staff.<\/p>\n<p>Written communications &#8211; Will be able to write routine business letters, memos for internal use, and directions\/instructions for seasonal staff.<\/p>\n<p>Supervisory skills &#8211; Will be able to successful manage 3 seasonal employees, including one who does landscape work, on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.<\/p>\n<p>Detail-oriented &#8211; Ensures that all tour calendars, program schedules, and staff schedules are accurate and kept up to date at all times.\u00a0 Provide leadership and model day-to-day activities to ensure that tasks are completed including using problem-solving skills.<\/p>\n<p>Interpersonal skills &#8211;
