Position Description:<\/b>
\nThe Program Coordinator for JET & Educational Affairs will work closely with consulate officers and other local staff to implement administration for the JET program and other related educational programs within Northern California and Nevada. This position requires a strong familiarity with the JET Program and the Japanese educational system; the ideal candidate should also have excellent communications, outreach, and public presentation skills. Successful candidates should also be prepared to work as part of a larger Consulate team on other public outreach projects as needed.<\/p>\n

Job Duties:<\/b>
\n\u2022Recruit, assess, and select qualified participants for the JET program.
\n\u2022Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local institutions of higher education.
\n\u2022Manage and develop program materials; deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
\n\u2022Recruit, train, and evaluate program interviewers.
\n\u2022Manage multi-day orientation programs for departing JETs.
\n\u2022Act as the Consulate’s primary point of contact for program alumni relations.
\n\u2022Advise program candidates on required documentation and visa processing issues.
\n\u2022Assist with the implementation of educational workshops and projects.
\n\u2022Update and manage confidential program databases for applicants and alumni.
\n\u2022Creating and maintaining web content relating to program areas
\n\u2022Assist with various office cultural programs; respond to inquiries from the general public.
\n\u2022Drive consulate vehicles in an official capacity as needed (for events, recruiting, etc.)<\/p>\n

Basic Requirements:<\/b>
\n\u2022A Bachelor\u2019s degree from an accredited institution.
\n\u2022Excellent written and spoken English; strong communication and interpersonal skills.\\
\n\u2022The ability to organize work and handle multiple priorities to strict deadlines.
\n\u2022Experience presenting and speaking to large, diverse groups.
\n\u2022Strong organizational skills and a familiarity with MS Office (including MS Access).
\n\u2022Previous experience with and knowledge of the JET Program, ideally as a past participant.
\n\u2022A strong interest in and knowledge of Japanese culture and education.
\n\u2022A full and valid driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n

Preferred Requirements:<\/b>
\n\u2022A strong public service orientation; superior problem solving ability and team building skills.
\n\u2022Japanese language proficiency and familiarity with Japanese work environments.
\n\u2022Progressively responsible educational or exchange program coordination experience.
\n\u2022A demonstrated understanding of US-Japan relations.
\n\u2022Active participation with a local JET alumni association; experience as a chapter officer.
\n\u2022Experience with alumni relations and international exchange programs a plus.<\/p>\n
