\nCharles Wright Academy is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts.\u00a0 Founded in 1957, the school enrolls 680 students in grades preschool through twelve. We are located in a suburban neighborhood southwest of Tacoma, approximately 1 mile from Puget Sound and within the shadow of Mt. Rainier.<\/p>\n

This position is a full-time faculty appointment for the 2013-14 academic year.\u00a0 This position will teach Middle School and advanced Japanese.<\/p>\n

Responsibilities:<\/b>
\n\u2022 Teaches three sections of Middle School Japanese, grades 6-8.
\n\u2022 Teaches one section of advanced Japanese at our Upper School.
\n\u2022 Acts as an advisor to a group of Middle School students.
\n\u2022 Involvement in extracurricular activities and\/or coaching.
\n\u2022 Chaperones one overnight class trip.
\n\u2022 Plans for the diversity of abilities and learning styles within the classroom, providing a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Imparts enthusiasm for learning to students and encourages the growth of moral character.
\n\u2022 Practices appropriate and effective classroom management techniques.
\n\u2022 Conducts ongoing assessments of students\u2019 development and growth and maintain record of such.
\n\u2022 Maintains communication with parents to keep them abreast of students\u2019 performance.
\n\u2022 Communicates in a professional and timely manner with parents, colleagues, and administration.
\n\u2022 Supervises students in all areas of the building.
\n\u2022 Develops a team approach for research and research-driven instruction.
\n\u2022 Attends all scheduled faculty and community meetings.<\/p>\n

Qualifications:<\/b>
\nThe successful candidate will be fluent in Japanese and have earned a bachelor\u2019s degree; a master\u2019s degree is preferred.\u00a0 Demonstrated effective teaching experience in middle school is preferred, in either a public or independent school setting.\u00a0 The candidate must have experience in dynamic, flexible pedagogical techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles.\u00a0 A sense of humor, ability to work cooperatively with peers, and a passion for working with emerging adolescents is essential.<\/p>\n
