Whether it\u2019s examples of its rich past (traditional Shinto dance), something contemporary (legendary manga and anime artists), or works of art captured by others (photographer Eikoh Hosoe, a play based on the life of a Japanese American Medal of Freedom winner), autumn here is so inviting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, Oct. 10, 6:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/event\/a-night-of-provocation-with-eikoh-hosoe\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>A Night of Provocation with Eikoh Hosoe<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/topic\/japan-society\/articles\"><strong>Japan Society<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>333 East 37th Street<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Master photographer\u00a0<strong>Eikoh Hosoe<\/strong>\u00a0is known for his dark, metaphorical and provocative images. First emerging in postwar Japan as a member of the avant-garde movement, he produced\u00a0<em>Barakei\u00a0<\/em>(<em>Ordeal by Roses<\/em>), featuring author and right-wing activist Yukio Mishima in a series of dark, erotic poses. He later published\u00a0<em>Kamaitachi<\/em>, showing butoh dance founder Tatsumi Hijikata in a series of supernatural images across the Japanese countryside. Mr. Hosoe speaks about his collective work and reflects on his long and dynamic career. Moderated by Dr. Miwako Tezuka, director of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Japan Society Gallery<\/a>. Attendance has more than tripled since its launch, as last year\u2019s estimates topped 105,000 visitors.
