Responsibility:<\/strong>
\nThis position serves the primary function of obtaining a broad array of transportation research information upon request and independently creating\u00a0research reports of varying length and levels of detail. Coordinates and moderates 4 transportation seminars per year that include U.S. and Japanese speakers on specific transportation issues. Specialties in aviation and public\u00a0transport systems desirable.<\/p>\n

\nReports directly to Senior Representative of Japanese transport association in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n

This position can be flexible.\u00a0 It is suitable for either a junior transportation professional with outstanding research capability and compensation commensurate with that experience. It may also be suitable for a more senior transportation professional with a deep network in government and academic programs, with compensation that recognizes that value.<\/p>\n

General duties:<\/strong>
\nResearch transportation and environmental industry issues, including road, rail and aviation.\u00a0Interface directly with consultants, other research firms, associations, libraries and all information sources.\u00a0Coordinate 4 half-day seminars per year that bring together transportation policymakers and stakeholders from the US and Japan .\u00a0Produce reports and analyses on specific issues, as directed.\u00a0Assist with preparation of quarterly transportation issue newsletter.\u00a0Follow and report on items of interest in trade publications, including aviation, surface transport, regulation, environmental protection, emissions for the automobile industry,\u00a0and related subjects.\u00a0Arrange and attend meetings with U.S. policy and regulatory executives, upon direction of management and generate reports on any meetings attended.<\/p>\n

Compensation:<\/strong>
\nSalary commensurate with experience, fully-paid health\/dental\/life insurance, 401K and profit share plan, generous holidays.<\/p>\n

Desired Skills & Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prerequisites:<\/strong>
\nMaster\u2019s degree in public policy, transport or economics, preferably Ph.D., and\/or deep experience and professional network in transportation. Sophisticated research\/analysis capabilities, excellent English writing; knowledge of Japanese language\/culture helpful. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, Power Point, Access.\u00a0Knowledge of aviation and rail and public transportation systems desirable. Must be able to determine appropriate participants and act as moderator for seminars on transportation policy seminars in the Washington D.C. area.<\/p>\n
