Weston<\/strong><\/a> (Nara-ken, 2002-04), author of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zorgamazoo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Zorgamazoo<\/strong><\/a>, has reviewed all haiku submissions containing the designated word <strong>\u201cprose\u201c<\/strong> for <a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2008\/12\/17\/haiku-challenge-2-prose-2\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Haiku Challenge #2<\/strong><\/a> and has selected a winner to receive a free copy of his book. Read on for his decision and rationale.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Following in the footsteps of <a href=\"http:\/\/jameskennedy.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>James Kennedy<\/strong><\/a> (Nara-ken, 2004-06), I feel obliged to assemble a short-list of honourable mentions.\u00a0 I make no claims, however, as to having any insightfulness when it comes to properly appreciating haiku&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Second runner-up<\/strong><\/span>, for its tenderness and topicality (&#8217;tis the season, after all), we have <strong>Justin Tedaldi&#8217;s<\/strong> entry:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The gift was thoughtful<br \/>\nThe letter&#8217;s prose delightful<br \/>\nHappy holidays<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8212;<strong>Justin Tedaldi<\/strong> (CIR Kobe-shi, 2001-02)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>First runner-up<\/strong><\/span>, for it&#8217;s gritty natural realism, is <strong>Alexei Esikoff&#8217;s<\/strong> ode to the grim weather of the Midwest:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;\"><em>The temperature drops<br \/>\nBuried under slushy prose<br \/>\nMinneapolis<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8212;<a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/jobs\/profiles\/writers\/\"><strong>Alexei Esikoff<\/strong><\/a> (Fukushima-ken, 2001-02)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>the winner this week<\/strong><\/span> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lulu.com\/darthmermer\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Meredith Hodges-Boos<\/strong><\/a> (who had an honourable mention in the previous contest, incidentally). Her haiku appeals to my love of word play &#8212; and even manages a nifty metaphor in the meantime.
