{"id":2383,"date":"2008-12-18T22:12:33","date_gmt":"2008-12-18T22:12:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=2383"},"modified":"2008-12-20T19:15:32","modified_gmt":"2008-12-20T19:15:32","slug":"witlife-1-creative-dating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2008\/12\/18\/witlife-1-creative-dating\/","title":{"rendered":"WITLife #10 &#8211; Creative Dating"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"..\/2008\/12\/category\/category\/wit-life\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/gallery.photo.net\/photo\/5964469-lg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"158\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a><em><a href=\"..\/2008\/12\/category\/category\/wit-life\/\"><strong>WITLife<\/strong><\/a> is a periodic series written by professional Interpreter\/Translator\/Writer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stacysmith.webs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Stacy Smith<\/strong><\/a> (Kumamoto-ken, 2000-03).\u00a0 In her recent posts, she\u2019s been watching the news in Japanese and sharing some of the interesting tidbits and trends along with her own observations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This morning&#8217;s news profiled how the faltering economy has affected couples and their date courses.\u00a0 They carried out two surveys, one on how date spots have changed and one on how much money is spent per date.\u00a0 For the first survey, the top three answers were:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Stay at home<br \/>\n&#8220;Zero yen&#8221; spots<br \/>\nWindow shopping<\/p>\n<p>Many couples are seeking ways to spend time together without spending a lot of money, and as might be expected relaxing at home is the most popular method.\u00a0 They profiled a couple who hung out in the girl&#8217;s room while she surfed the internet and he <!--more-->read manga.\u00a0 The announcer questioned whether this was really a date, but she insisted that it was the fact that they were physically together that was important, not what they were doing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Zero yen&#8221; spots, or date destinations that don&#8217;t cost any money, are another idea.\u00a0 Some of the examples they gave were a Toyota showcase where entrance is free and an observatory where you can go to the 26th floor to enjoy views of the Tokyo skyline.\u00a0 When asked how much they spend on an average date, the top three answers were:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3000-5000 yen<br \/>\n5000-10,000 yen<br \/>\nLess than 3000 yen<\/p>\n<p>One male respondent said that a typical date costs him no more than 1000 yen!\u00a0 Among all young people, 59% said they split the costs of a date evenly (<em>warikan<\/em>).\u00a0 Those of an older generation were then interviewed and asked to reminisce about their dating lives.\u00a0 In this case, all respondents said the man had paid for everything and that the average cost of a date had been:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">More than 10,000 yen<br \/>\n5000-10,000 yen<br \/>\n3000 yen<\/p>\n<p>One male respondent said he used to regularly pay up to $30,000 per outing!\u00a0 As the economy shifts so do social trends, so when things pick up in Japan perhaps couples will return to lavish spending.\u00a0 For the time being, however, they are relying on coupons and creativity to keep themselves entertained!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WITLife is a periodic series written by professional Interpreter\/Translator\/Writer Stacy Smith (Kumamoto-ken, 2000-03).\u00a0 In her recent posts, she\u2019s been watching the news in Japanese and sharing some of the interesting tidbits and trends along with her own observations.
