{"id":22660,"date":"2011-11-21T13:34:33","date_gmt":"2011-11-21T17:34:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=22660"},"modified":"2012-07-20T16:12:42","modified_gmt":"2012-07-20T20:12:42","slug":"hibari-sensei-interview-with-mio-soul-for-purple-sky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2011\/11\/21\/hibari-sensei-interview-with-mio-soul-for-purple-sky\/","title":{"rendered":"Hibari-sensei: Interview with Mio Soul for Purple SKY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong><\/strong><em><strong>Jen Wang (Miyagi, 2008-09)<\/strong> <em><em> is a lab tech in Dallas and a staff writer for the Japanese music website <\/em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/purpleskymagazine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Purple SKY<\/a>.\u00a0 Her love of cosplay and her junior high school students inspired the name for her own Japanese pop culture blog, <\/em><em><a href=\"http:\/\/hibarisensei.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hibari-sensei\u2019s Classroom<\/a>.<\/em><\/em><\/em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tokyo-born songwriter Mio Soul makes her debut with <em>In My Skin<\/em>.\u00a0 The EP contains the heavy drum beats and smooth melodies of contemporary R&amp;B with flavors of pop, dance, and jazz.\u00a0 Simple yet candid, the lyrics are in English, except for the rap in \u201cLet\u2019s Party\u201d where Mio effortlessly flows in and out of her native language.\u00a0 \u201cPromise\u201d chronicles Mio\u2019s pursuit of her dreams in New York City and features sensual vocals complemented by airy piano trills.\u00a0 The final track, \u201cOut of My Life\u201d, takes a complete 180 from the sweetness of \u201cI Wish\u201d in the beginning.\u00a0 Mio engages an ex-lover in a showdown with passionate vocals and sexy Spanish guitars.\u00a0 Even though she sings that her \u201cstory\u2019s ended\u201d for that person, it has only just begun in the music world.<\/p>\n<p>I had the opportunity to ask my fellow biologist via email about her career change, the \u201cI Wish\u201d PV, and her involvement with music-related charities.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_1897asmall.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-22662 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_1897asmall-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_1897asmall-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_1897asmall.jpg 808w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>What made you change from being a biologist to a musician?<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nWhen it comes to biology, I had a huge influence from my father. My mom, however, is a pianist, so music was always around me as a child. \u00a0In college I was so curious about the connection of brain function and soul (heart)\u2026I enjoyed all of the field work.
