{"id":22441,"date":"2011-11-09T23:24:54","date_gmt":"2011-11-10T03:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=22441"},"modified":"2011-11-09T23:24:54","modified_gmt":"2011-11-10T03:24:54","slug":"jetwit-career-update-11-09-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2011\/11\/09\/jetwit-career-update-11-09-11\/","title":{"rendered":"JETwit Career Update 11.09.11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/category\/career-update\/\">JETwit Career Update<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is a new feature where JETwit will list any JET alums who have recently (loosely interpreted) found a new job, gotten a promotion, started a new business, been elected to an office, started a new grad program or have any other career developments to share. \u00a0You probably see lots of job listings, so I thought it would also be interested to know who\u2019s finding work and what kind of work people are finding.<\/p>\n<p><em>Let us know about yourself or fellow JET alums by sending an e-mail to\u00a0<strong>jetwit [at] jetwit.com<\/strong>. \u00a0(Make sure to include prefecture and years on JET. \u00a0And of course mention if you found your job via JETwit or JETAA listings or connections.)<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?s=rob+cornilles\">Rob Cornilles<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong>won the <strong>Republican primary for the Congressional seat<\/strong> vacated by <strong>David Wu (D-Oregon)<\/strong>, who resigned due to allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior. \u00a0If Rob, who lost to Wu in the last election, wins this election, he would be the first ever JET alum to hold a seat in the U.S. Congress.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kiesha Speech (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nagasaki-tabinet.com\/mlang\/english\/\">Nagasaki<\/a>-ken, 2000-02)<\/strong> was elected to the\u00a0<strong>Oak Park\u00a0School Board<\/strong> last night in\u00a0Oakland County, Michigan. \u00a0(<a title=\"http:\/\/detnews.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/section?Category=POLITICS01\" href=\"http:\/\/detnews.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/section?Category=POLITICS01\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/detnews.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/section?Category=POLITICS01<\/a>) (<a title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/kieshaspeech\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/kieshaspeech\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/#!\/kieshaspeech<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Olivia Nilsson (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.awanavi.jp\/english\/\">Tokushima<\/a>-ken\u00a02006-08)<\/strong>\u00a0reports she has left her position at the\u00a0New York\u00a0Bureau of the <strong>Yomiuri Shimbun<\/strong> after three years covering business and economic news. She&#8217;s now working as a researcher at <strong>Blue Heron Research Partners<\/strong> in NYC.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Elizabeth Gordon<\/strong> of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jetaachicago.com\">JETAA Chicago<\/a> reports: &#8220;I am the new Director of Private Events at the <strong>Adler Planetarium<\/strong> &#8211; totally different from what I was doing, but very exciting!&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Daniel Sturgeon<\/strong>, a Political Analyst and Speechwriter at the <strong>Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta<\/strong> who also previously worked as a <strong>Chunichi\/Tokyo Shimbun<\/strong> staff reporter in D.C. says: &#8220;My last three jobs have been Japan related and were found either at JETwit or the JETAA network.&#8221; Daniel also mentioned that he is now a Rotarian, so if anyone is interested in applying for their scholarship, he&#8217;s a point of contact.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shane Taber (Monbusho English Fellow,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pref.nara.jp\/nara_e\/\">Nara<\/a>-ken, 1979-81) <\/strong>says: \u00a0&#8220;After a nearly 30 year &#8220;break&#8221;, 4 kids (now all grown), plus years of public school teaching innorthern California, I am happily back in Kansai teaching full time at\u00a0<strong>Kobe College\u00a0High School<\/strong> for the next several years. While I became aware of this job opening through other sources, this teaching position was also listed in JETwit&#8217;s job section in 2010. Of course, having been an MEF was a big plus in landing this position, I&#8217;m sure! I rejoice with all of you in achieving such great job success! Maybe I will have a report to share soon as I am looking for a job in (near Atlanta). Thanks JetWit for your dedication and support of all of us JET Alums!&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>And <strong>Greg Beck (CIR\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kankou.pref.hiroshima.jp\/foreign\/english\/index.html\">Hiroshima<\/a>-ken, 2006-11)<\/strong>\u00a0 (listed in the previous JETwit Career Update) says: \u00a0&#8220;It is great not just to be employed, but to work in the field I love, not just for a paycheck.
