Seeking a\u00a0Special Events Assistant for the Nation’s Largest Japanese Festival<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Japan-America Society of Washington DC is\u00a0seeking\u00a0an intern to\u00a0assist the Director of the\u00a0Sakura Matsuri-Japanese Street Festival.\u00a0 Sakura Matsuri is the largest one day Japanese\u00a0cultural festival in the Nation. In 2008 the Festival\u00a0introduced Japanese culture and arts to over 140,000\u00a0visitors in one day.\u00a0 The Festival\u00a0has more than\u00a090\u00a0vendors and exhibitors, 30 hours of non-stop stage performances, and over 500 volunteers.<\/p>\n

Assisting the Japan-America Society to produce one of the largest outdoor Festivals in Washington DC is an\u00a0excellent opportunity for someone interested in pursuing a career in special events planning and production. This is a paid position.<\/p>\n

The 2009 Festival will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 and will cover six blocks on Pennsylvania Avenue.\u00a0In producing this festival, the\u00a0Japan-America Society and the intern\/assistant will work\u00a0closely with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, Federal and DC city officials, contractors,\u00a0 vendors, artists, and performers.<\/p>\n

Basic Internship Requirements

\n–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Stickler for\u00a0detail
\n–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Strong organizational and self-management\u00a0 skills
\n–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Great team player
\n–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Good at\u00a0taking minimal instruction in a fast-paced environment and then executing
\n–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Knowledge of\u00a0Filemaker Pro\u00a0and graphics software is a plus
\n–\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Interest in Japanese Culture and some Japanese language skills are a plus<\/p>\n

\nPlease note that this internship is a paid Internship ($12\/hour).\u00a0 In\u00a0order to\u00a0produce the Festival, the intern must commit to a set work schedule.<\/p>\n

Internship Hours:
\nMonth of January – 15 hours\/ week
\nMonth of February – 25 hours\/week
\nMonth of March (first two weeks) – 30 hours\/ week
