As the <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.carnegiehall.org\/article\/box_office\/series\/brochure\/japannyc\/index.aspx\">JapanNYC<\/a> festival\u2019s slated performances wrap up this week, here\u2019s a rundown of more Nippon-flavored events of note:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, April 5, 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/jetaany.org\/2011\/03\/23\/april-5-jetaany-fundraiser\/\">Fundraiser for Japan<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Slate \u2013 54 West 21st Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues)<\/p>\n<p>$25 donation for entry, plus two raffle tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased both in advance and during the event.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jetaany.org\/\">JET Alumni Association of New York<\/a>, in partnership with <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nydevolunteer.org\/\">NY de Volunteer<\/a>, will be holding a fundraiser to benefit Japan.\u00a0The night will include great drink specials, entertainment, and wonderful raffle prizes. Over 30 generous JET Alumni and local businesses have donated goods and services to the cause, such as cooking classes, bottles of sake, private dance lessons, handmade jewelry, and more!<\/p>\n<p>All proceeds from this event will go to the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/jetaany.org\/2011\/03\/12\/japan-earthquake-relief\/\">JETAA USA Japan Earthquake Relief Fund<\/a>. During the event, volunteers will be collecting messages for <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Send-Hope-to-Japan-from-the-World\/200978576587591\">Send Hope to Japan from the World<\/a> to further express solidarity during this difficult time. This open event will have a great crowd of JET alumni, members of the local Japanese community, and many other New Yorkers wanting to show their support. The Solas bar will of course provide an extended happy hour for guests, and an exclusive second floor private bar service.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, April 9, 11:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/event_detail?eid=10a81178\"><em>Concert for Japan<\/em><\/a><\/em><br \/>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/\">Japan Society<\/a><br \/>\n333 E. 47th Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenues)<br \/>\nTickets: $5\/$100 for gala block for certain acts<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/\">Japan Society<\/a>&#8216;s is raising the roof (and funds to help Japan) with this ambitious 12-hour concert extravaganza, from which 100% of the proceeds will go to the Japan Society&#8217;s <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/earthquake\">Japan Earthquake Relief Fund<\/a>. John Zorn organized the GALA BLOCKS, which include Philip Glass and Hal Willner, Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sitesakamoto.com\/\">Ryuichi Sakamoto<\/a>, and Bill Laswell with gigi band. New York-based Japanese bands <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/echostream\">Echostream<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/hardhardnips\">Hard Nips<\/a>, and <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/metomars\">Me and Mars<\/a> will also perform. <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nyoraku.com\/\">Shakuhachi Grand Master James Nyoraku Schlefer<\/a> assembled a group of traditional Japanese artists such as koto player <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/home.earthlink.net\/~masayo-koto\/\">Masayo Ishigure<\/a> and <em>gagaku<\/em> flute player Sadahiro Kakitani. In addition to these musical delights, there will be special activities, from learning basic Japanese phrases to origami crane folding to learning the basics of <em>shodo<\/em> calligraphy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Saturday, April 9, 7:00 p.m.<\/strong><br \/>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbkingblues.com\/bio.php?id=480\">Kaiju Big Battel \u2013 \u201cWhen Danger Comes to Town\u201d<\/a><br \/>\n<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbkingblues.com\/\">B.B. King Blues Club &amp; Grill<\/a><br \/>\n237 West 42nd Street (between 7th and 8th Avenues)<br \/>\nTickets: $15.00 advance general admission\/$18.00 day of show<\/p>\n<p>In perhaps the ultimate American nod to <em>Godzilla<\/em> and <em>Ultraman<\/em>-styled smackdowns, <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kaiju.com\/\">Kaiju Big Battel<\/a> is live wrestling of epic proportions. Planet Earth is under threat: scattered throughout the galaxy is a monstrous mob of maniacal villains, menacing alien beasts, and giant, city-crushing monsters that are waging war against one another. Currently, the Kaiju Universe maintains an active roster of approximately 30 monsters, including a blue alien-glutton named Sky Deviler, a factory-worker-turned-soup-can called Kung-Fu Chicken Noodle, and a despicable, square-headed mad scientist known as Dr. Cube.
