Led by artistic director <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seiji_Ozawa\">Seiji Ozawa<\/a>, who is best known for his record-setting 29-year career as music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the festival\u2019s musical highlights next week will see Maestro Ozawa helming rare overseas concerts by the Saito Kinen Orchestra with conductor <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.naxos.com\/person\/Tatsuya_Shimono\/32349.htm\">Tatsuya Shimono<\/a>, pianist <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mitsuko_Uchida\">Mitsuko Uchida<\/a> and others, plus tributes to the legendary late composer <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Toru_Takemitsu\">T\u014dru Takemitsu<\/a>, considered by many to be Japan\u2019s greatest composer.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, as part of the Works &amp; Process series at the Guggenheim Museum, a series of performances of Prokofiev\u2019s <em>Peter and the Wolf<\/em>\u2014performed by the Juilliard Ensemble and George Manahan with visual art by Rei Sato of Kaikai Kiki and narration by fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi\u2014will surely delight music fans of all ages.<\/p>\n<p>The performances follow other city exhibitions and ongoing events under the JapanNYC banner that run through next year, including <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/sites.asiasociety.org\/yoshitomonara\/community\/?tag=yoshitomo-nara\">Yoshitomo Nara: Nobody\u2019s Fool<\/a><\/em> at <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/asiasociety.org\/\">Asia Society<\/a>, <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/event_detail?eid=46394dff\">The Sound of One Hand: Paintings and Calligraphy by Zen Master Hakuin<\/a><\/em> at <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.japansociety.org\/\">Japan Society<\/a>, and <em><a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.noguchi.org\/programs\/exhibitions\/becoming-artist-isamu-noguchi-and-his-contemporaries-1922-1960-0\">On Becoming an Artist: Isamu Noguchi and His Contemporaries, 1922-1960<\/a><\/em> at <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.noguchi.org\/\">The Noguchi Museum<\/a> in Queens.<\/p>\n<p>JapanNYC returns in March and April 2011 with three weeks of events across New York City, including performances of classical, jazz and traditional Japanese music; contemporary theatre and visual art; <em>noh<\/em> theater and <em>kyogen<\/em> plays; modern dance; film; <em>taiko<\/em> drumming and more.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/japanese-culture-in-new-york\/carnegie-hall-to-kick-off-japannyc-2010-concert-week\" target=\"_blank\">Click here<\/a> <\/strong>for the complete performance schedule.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maestro Seiji Ozawa, artistic director of Carnegie Hall&#8217;s JapanNYC festival.
