It will likely air in January.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Anime Masterpieces<\/span>:<\/strong> Creating and editing a Study Guide for the next film in the <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.popcultureshock.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/manga\/tekkonkinkreet.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"116\" height=\"162\" \/>series, <em><strong>Tekkonkinkreet<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/animemasterpieces.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>animemasterpieces.com<\/strong><\/a> for more info on the panel.\u00a0 The most recent event was on the 14th at the Waterloo Festival of Animated Cinema in Canada.  The next event will be Dec. 6th at the Smithsonian featuring John Dower, Susan Napier and Fred Schodt.\u00a0 The next event in which Roland will appear will be Feb. 11 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Who<\/span>:<\/strong> Attending all four of their Kanto area shows and spending time with <strong>Pete Townsend<\/strong> and his assistant and crew (with whom he&#8217;s become friends!)\u00a0 According to Roland, the shows have been spectacular, with rabidly enthusiastic responses from Japanese fans&#8211;who stand and cheer through the entire concert (which he observes is fairly unusual for usually reserved Japanese concert-goers).  The final two shows will be at Budokan.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/991.com\/newGallery\/The-Who-Call-Me-Lightning-430190.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"160\" \/><\/p>\n<p>He even received a compliment from Pete Townsend on his latest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yomiuri.co.jp\/dy\/features\/arts\/20081114TDY15002.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Daily Yomiuri<\/strong><\/em> column<\/a>, which Pete read one morning when the paper was delivered to his hotel room.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Adbusters Magazine<\/strong><\/span><strong>: <\/strong>Has become a contributing writer\/editor at <em><strong>Adbusters<\/strong><\/em> magazine (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.adbusters.org\/magazine\/79\/too_comfortable_to_take_risks.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.adbusters.org\/magazine\/79\/too_comfortable_to_take_risks.html<\/a>), which means he provides a story from Japan for every issue, starting this past September.\u00a0 A scan of his story from the lates issue <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.japanprobe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/factory-ship.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"111\" height=\"157\" \/>is, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/japanamerica.blogspot.com\/2008\/11\/manga-man-in-adbusters.html\" target=\"_blank\">The MANGA MAN<\/a><\/strong>, is available on Roland&#8217;s blog. \u00a0 Meanwhile, the current issue of <em><strong>Adbusters<\/strong><\/em> has a lengthy feature by Roland on the recent success of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kanik%C5%8Dsen\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Kanikosen<\/strong><\/em> (<em>The Crab Ship)<\/em><\/a>, a socialist novel written by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Takiji_Kobayashi\"><strong>Takiji Kobayashi<\/strong><\/a> in 1929, among young Japanese, and the spike in enrollment in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Japan_Communist_Party\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Japan&#8217;s Communist Party<\/strong><\/a> since the start of this year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.japanfocus.org\/images\/UserFiles\/Image\/2409.bowenstruyk.proletarts\/Kobayashi%20Takiji.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" height=\"140\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Roland Kelts (Osaka, 1998-99), the author of Japanamerica and a professor at Todai, is back in Japan and up to some interesting things.
