{"id":11903,"date":"2010-05-25T15:35:51","date_gmt":"2010-05-25T19:35:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=11903"},"modified":"2010-05-25T15:35:51","modified_gmt":"2010-05-25T19:35:51","slug":"job-asia-society-seeks-director-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2010\/05\/25\/job-asia-society-seeks-director-nyc\/","title":{"rendered":"Job: Asia Society seeks Director (NYC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Via the JETAA USA LinkedIn group:<\/p>\n<p>The Director is a key organizational leader with responsibility for  growing and directing the International Studies Schools Network, an  integral part of the Asia Society\u2019s national initiative to promote  international education in US schools.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES: <\/strong><br \/>\n<!--more-->\u2022Oversee International Schools Studies Network (ISSN) schools development including supervision of coaches, school design implementation\/quality  control and improvement of internationally-themed instruction and the  development and implementation of leadership and professional  development initiatives in conjunction with ISSN staff and consultants.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022In consultation with Vice President, direct outreach to selected school  districts, state education agencies and charter authorities to initiate  agreements between the Society and such entities responsible for  starting new internationally themed secondary schools. Promote and  oversee the expansion of the ISSN nationally, and within state and  regional sub-networks.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Participate as a key member of leadership team for the Graduate  Portfolio System (GPS), a system to align curriculum, instruction and assessment  to produce college-ready, globally-competent graduates. This system will be  piloted in ISSN schools (for eventual scale-up broadly in the education  field). Work with Director of Professional Development, Vice President,  consultants and others on the education team and within the ISSN to  refine ideas and pilot.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Lead alignment and enhancement of the ISSN school design and support services to support transformation of low-performing schools (i.e.  \u201cturnaround schools\u201d) in line with federal and state school reform strategies.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Working with consultants, oversee data management of ISSN. Benchmark  ISSN schools\u2019 progress, including extent to which students are \u201con  track\u201d for graduation; comparisons of student performance to demographically  similar schools and to highly successful schools; assist ISSN schools in  conducing targeted analysis of school performance issues and problems and assist  in identifying potential solutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Speak and represent Asia Society at venues of educators and policy  leaders. Communicate network plans and accomplishments to the media. Direct ISSN summer institutes and seminars for network members.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Collaborate with Vice President on strategic planning to take elements  of the ISSN school design and services model to scale nationally.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Working with others on the team, identify additional funding sources, conceptualize and develop proposals.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Supervise New York City-based ISSN staff and regionally based coaches  and consultants.<br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nREQUIREMENTS: <\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Masters degree and seven to ten years experience in a senior position  in a field related to education and child development.<br \/>\n\u2022 Seven to ten years of practical and leadership experience in education  reform\/school change.<br \/>\n\u2022 Leader in urban or diverse school district(s) as teacher\/principal or superintendent.<br \/>\n\u2022 Highly knowledgeable of international content, pedagogy and best  practices in learning, particularly among low-income and disadvantaged  youth.<br \/>\n\u2022 Diverse international work, travel or other inter-cultural  experiences.<br \/>\n\u2022 Strong management, organizational development and financial skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Solid knowledge and comfort with 21st century classroom technologies.<br \/>\n\u2022 \u201cCan-do\u201d attitude and team player.<br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent entrepreneurial and growth management skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Knowledge of or interest in Asia.<br \/>\n\u2022 Strong supervisory and team-building skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent writing and communication skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.<br \/>\n\u2022 Strong fundraiser with demonstrated track record of developing  programs of national significance.<\/p>\n<p>HOW TO APPLY:<br \/>\n<a title=\"New window will open\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/redirect?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Easiasociety%2Eorg%2Ffiles%2Fpdf%2F100514_dir_issn_edu_ny%2Epdf&amp;urlhash=btk0\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.asiasociety.org\/files\/pdf\/100514_dir_issn_edu_ny.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Via the JETAA USA LinkedIn group: The Director is a key organizational leader with responsibility for growing and directing the International Studies Schools Network, an integral part of the Asia Society\u2019s national initiative to promote international education in US schools.
