{"id":1178,"date":"2008-11-13T15:39:55","date_gmt":"2008-11-13T15:39:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=1178"},"modified":"2008-11-13T15:41:01","modified_gmt":"2008-11-13T15:41:01","slug":"jetaa-ny-newsletter-jet-alumni-2008-election-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2008\/11\/13\/jetaa-ny-newsletter-jet-alumni-2008-election-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"JETAA NY Newsletter:  JET Alumni 2008 Election Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2278\/2293099752_bfaf3eacda_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"226\" \/><em>Welcome to the second-ever JET Alumni Election Survey!\u00a0 Forty-five people from around the U.S. and representing over 30 prefectures responded to &#8220;vote&#8221; and share their thoughts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The survey was conducted anonymously using SurveyMonkey, all responses were received between 9\/10 and 10\/6 (i.e., before the economy started imploding) and an effort was made to make the survey available to as many chapters as possible.\u00a0 In other words, it&#8217;s completely un-scientific.\u00a0 That said, it&#8217;s still fun to do, so see the results below.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>VOTE TOTALS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">McCain &#8211; 3<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Obama &#8211; 37<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Ron Paul &#8211; 1<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Undecided &#8211; 4<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>COMMENTS<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ron Paul<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">***Ron Paul&#8230;real change.\u00a0 My experiences in Japan have provided me with a much different perspective since &#8220;return,&#8221; made me more receptive to initially intimidating political and economic ideas.\u00a0 I left the American Matrix for a while, and now there is no falling back to sleep.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.watchingtheview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/mccain-obama.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"187\" height=\"140\" \/><strong>Undecided<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">***I&#8217;m torn on the issue.\u00a0 At this point I could see myself voting for either party.\u00a0 Originally I planned on voting for Obama, but recently I do not like how his camp has been handling the issue of McCain choosing Palin as VP.\u00a0 I really could see the Republicans winning again.\u00a0 Since I live in California the state will go Democrat, so either way I guess it doesn&#8217;t matter all that much.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>***Undecided! I&#8217;m pretty liberal but I don&#8217;t know about Obama&#8217;s track record.\u00a0 Also, I have guiltily fallen for Palin&#8230;I want to read up more on each candidate&#8217;s fiscal plans and then will probably vote with my wallet.<\/p>\n<p>***Undecided.\u00a0 Agree with McCain more on economics, Obama more on social issues and foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.novapages.com\/media\/1\/20070812-ron-paul-magneto.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"199\" \/>***Undecided:\u00a0 Swore I would not vote another Republican into office, but they picked the one guy I might consider.\u00a0 I like Obama the man, but am afraid about some of the stuff he is saying: taxes, trade, spending, healthcare, etc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>McCain<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">***McCain\/Palin all the way!\u00a0 I&#8217;m a Democrat and Hillary supporter who can&#8217;t fathom voting for a candidate who has such little experience.\u00a0 That his ego prevented him from picking Hillary as VP was the final straw.<\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Obama<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">***My friends and I were so frightened when Palin was picked as McCain&#8217;s VP that we created a site (www.superbarracuda.com) with a compilation of comics about the presidential election in hopes of getting the apathetic to vote. So in other words, I&#8217;m voting for Obama.<\/p>\n<p>***Another 20-35 year old white male for OBAMA!\u00a0 (Take that, pollsters!)\u00a0 He is the first candidate in my lifetime who has inspired me with a vision of an America for all.\u00a0 I think he can restore our country&#8217;s place in this world as a leader in diplomacy and justice and allow us globetrotting Yankees to lift our heads in pride again.<\/p>\n<p>***Hopefully a third party candidate&#8230; otherwise, Obama.\u00a0 In NY, I vote third party as the Democrats will win the NY electoral college, but I want to send a message that our choices are not good enough.\u00a0 If Obama is the best choice, there really is a problem with America.<\/p>\n<p>***I&#8217;m an Obama-mama!<\/p>\n<p>***Obama &#8212; being female, I am slightly excited at the possibility of having a female VP, though not enough to endure another term (or possibly two) of Republican policies.\u00a0 They will not get my vote just because Palin is a woman\u00a0 :-)<\/p>\n<p>***Obama\u00a0 More honest, stands for what I believe in.<\/p>\n<p>***Obama&#8217;s presidency will be a huge and much-needed rebranding of America&#8217;s image abroad and will hopefully inject more rational thinking into our domestic and foreign policy.<\/p>\n<p>***Obama FTW!!!\u00a0 [Translation:\u00a0 For The Win]<\/p>\n<p>***Obama.\u00a0 He&#8217;s got the greater vision, and, it appears more lately, the greater integrity.\u00a0 McCain has really lost me by aligning himself more with Bush over the years.\u00a0 And the Rovian defamation tactics he&#8217;s turning to in this campaign are just gross.
