She starts her day by watching Fujisankei\u2019s newscast in Japanese, and here she shares some of the interesting tidbits and trends together with her own observations.<a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4526.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-11652\" title=\"IMG_4526\" src=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4526-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4526-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4526-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4526.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I have <a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2010\/03\/06\/wit-life-80-motto-mochi\/#more-11021\">already written <\/a>about my obsession with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/kansai-yamato-honolulu\">Kansai Yamato<\/a>, an amazing mochi maker located in Honolulu&#8217;s Ala Moana mall.\u00a0 I am lucky enough to be back in Hawaii with my current\u00a0group (someone up there likes me!), so of course I had to pay a visit as soon as I got into town.\u00a0 As the shelves were fully stocked, I was able to find some items I had not seen before.\u00a0 In addition to the wide\u00a0variety of <em>mochi<\/em>,<em>\u00a0<\/em>they had some other goodies like the\u00a0<em>kabocha<\/em> bread in the picture on the right.\u00a0 As a huge pumpkin fan, I had to try it.\u00a0 I was expecting something along the lines of Japan&#8217;s <em>mushi pan (<\/em>steamed bread<em>),<\/em> but it was more substantial,\u00a0similar to\u00a0the consistency of a moist muffin (<em>shittori shite iru<\/em>).\u00a0 These two large piec<a href=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4529.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-11654\" title=\"IMG_4529\" src=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4529-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4529-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4529-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/IMG_4529.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>es cost $2.99 plus tax, well worth the price.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from getting some of\u00a0the\u00a0unusual flavors that\u00a0I come to Kansai Yamato for (peanut butter &amp; chocolate, Oreo, etc.), I got a <em>mochi<\/em> sampler ($3.99 plus tax) that included a\u00a0variety of types.\u00a0\u00a0Shown on the left, it is comprised of (from top left clockwise) peanut butter, Okinawan sweet potato, kinako with red bean paste and what is labeled as honeydew (though it&#8217;s not very green in color).\u00a0 Clearly my sweet tooth will be satisfied for the next\u00a0few days&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WITLife is a periodic series written by professional Writer\/Interpreter\/Translator Stacy Smith (Kumamoto-ken CIR, 2000-03).
