{"id":11572,"date":"2010-04-26T17:23:24","date_gmt":"2010-04-26T21:23:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/?p=11572"},"modified":"2010-04-26T17:26:26","modified_gmt":"2010-04-26T21:26:26","slug":"jet-author-bruce-feilers-latest-on-living-with-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jetwit.com\/wordpress\/2010\/04\/26\/jet-author-bruce-feilers-latest-on-living-with-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"JET Author: Bruce Feiler&#8217;s latest on living with cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You may have seen his face on The Colbert Report or his byline in The New York Times, but the bestseller <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/brucefeiler.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bruce Feiler<\/a><\/strong> got his start after college in JET. \u00a0His first publication, though, was spurred by his experience in Japan as a JET teacher in the <em>inaka<\/em>:<em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/039558521X\/wiredinstruct-20\" target=\"_blank\"> Learning to Bow: An American Teacher in a Japanese School <\/a> <\/strong><span style=\"font-style: normal\">in 1991. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-style: normal\">Many successful titles and even a PBS miniseries later, Feiler is back with another personal account on his experience after he was diagnosed with cancer. \u00a0The young father of two daughters set off to write to them with the advice of six guiding men in his life. \u00a0The group of his college roommates and childhood friends, penned <strong>&#8220;The Council of Dads,&#8221; <\/strong>provide the wisdom that he seeks for himself and his family. \u00a0The rest of his personal battle with chemo therapy and lingering fears for his family unfold in his latest book: <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.councilofdads.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Council of Dads &#8211; My Daughters, My Illness, and the Men Who Could Be Me<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-style: normal\">As an early reviewer from United&#8217;s Hemispheres Inflight Magazine <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hemispheresmagazine.com\/2010\/04\/01\/paternal-instincts\/\" target=\"_blank\">noted<\/a>: &#8220;The book\u2019s power comes in part from Feiler\u2019s willingness to delve into emotions\u2014including feelings of tenderness not only for our children and spouses but between male friends\u2014that aren\u2019t often spoken of with such candor.&#8221;
