For February’s Joshikai,<\/strong> the author of Shortchanged: A Japanese Women’s Guide to International Romance<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\uff08www.sonsuru-japan.com<\/a>), Mieko<\/span> Mochizuki Swartz<\/strong> will give advice about international relationships and romance, addressing differences in communication styles and cultural expectations. The talk will be followed by time for networking, chatting and drinking.<\/p>\n

We are creating a community of Japanese women and women with an interest in Japan, gathering for a monthly meet-up to make friends, share stories and learn from each other.\u00a0 On the second Thursday of each month, we’ll meet at a location that is chic, reasonably priced, and conveniently located (near a BART station and other public transportation) for an evening of drinks and girl talk, where our members can connect and relax over a cocktail.<\/p><\/div>\n

\nFood \/ Drink:<\/strong> You can buy drinks at the private bar, but they don’t sell food. Feel free to bring your own food to the event. (There are many affordable, delicious restaurants nearby to get takeout.)<\/p>\n

The advice \/ information given during the first half of this event will focus on the experiences of Japanese women, so Mieko’s talk will be in Japanese. Those of us who aren’t fluent in Japanese should feel free to join, as it will be great listening practice about an interesting topic! The second half of the event (from around 7:30) will be a networking event (like January’s) where we can talk, drink and listen to a mix of Japanese \/ English music<\/span> in a private lounge.<\/p>\n
