It literally means &#8220;the first calligraphy of the New Year.&#8221; The subjects tend to be auspicious words or phrases. Originally, Kakizome was performed at imperial court and expanded to the locals in the Edo period. DecorAsian\u2019s Mami Yamamoto and Vintage Kimono\u2019s Janine Thormann will show participants how these delicate fabrics can enhance the modern home.
