INTERPRETERS

“Interpretation is not a matter of words only: it is a matter of making intelligible a whole culture.” – Anthony Burgess

Anime NYC has hosted over 50 guests from Japan over the past two years, and as our guest list continues to grow, we’re looking for talented individuals who can help interpret for Japanese guests coming to our event. Do you have Japanese language skills and want to be part of the Anime NYC team? Please read on for more details, and then fill out the application below!

We’re bringing on two levels of interpreters, and all Anime NYC’s interpreter roles are paid positions

Interpreter Level 1 – Fluent Japanese-English Interpreters

  • Interpret for guests on stage for panels. Clearly communicate words from the guests to the audience and field any questions from fans.
  • Interpret for press interviews between media and guests.
  • Interpret for other special events as necessary.
  • JLPT N2 or higher or equivalent experience.

Interpreter Level 2 – Conversationally Fluent Japanese-English Interpreters/Escorts

  • Escort Japanese guests from point A to point B in the convention center.
  • Communicate and assess needs from the Japanese guests and publishers to Anime NYC staff.
  • Answer show-related questions from Japanese fans at the event.
  • JLPT N4 or higher or equivalent experience.
  • In addition to knowing and speaking Japanese, all our interpreters need an understanding of anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture. In addition to payment, all selected interpreters will also receive a badge good for admission to Anime NYC all weekend, but please note Anime NYC does not provide housing or travel support.

Application Process: http://animenyc.com/interpreter/. All applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on August 10, 2019. Late applications will not be accepted. Applications will be notified by August 23, 2019, of their application status. Selected applicants will then have in-person interviews scheduled in August/September. Interviews will be 15-20 minutes and will be held in New York City on a weekend.

Anime NYC reserves the right to approve or deny all applications, and all Anime NYC decisions are final.
