Thanks to JET alum, Erik Smith (Kumamoto-ken) for the following job opening that will work closely with him on a project for the broadcasting division of the International Olympic Committee:

Summary: Freelance coordinator position for Japanese/English bilinguals residing in Tokyo.

This coordinator will act as a liaison for the broadcasting division of the IOC and partner universities in Tokyo; both parties are collaborating to host seminars and workshops about sports broadcasting for students at Japanese universities in Fall 2019. After the workshops, the coordinator will continue to work until the end of the Tokyo 2020 Games, supporting students who are selected for internships during the Games.

NOTE: Must already reside in Tokyo and be able to start work immediately. As this is a freelance position with a foreign enterprise and not employment with a corporation in Japan, it may be challenging to arrange visa sponsorship. Therefore, preference will be given to individuals already with spouse visas or permanent residency.


    • Develop relationships with the partner universities in Japan;
    • Help with advertising the programme to students, if needed;
    • Liaise with the employment agency;
    • Manage data and produce reports;
    • Assist with managing student applications to the program and assigning students to workshops
    • Communicate with participants (in person, phone, email, social media, etc.), responding to queries and requests;
    • Prepare material for presentations and seminars;
    • Archive records of training, including course content, participant data, results, feedback, etc.
    • Assist during the accreditation processes of selected students;
    • Help to issue and distribute diplomas for students who complete training;
    • Help with planning the workshops distributed throughout two months;
    • Survey training venues and book sports events for the Venue Operations training;
    • Assist in organizing the workshops: create and update the list of participants, distribution of materials and training, monitor trainees during training, support trainers;
    • Produce content for the Social Media channel;
    • Monitor the Social Media channel constantly;
    • Help compiling first-day information for all students;
    • Provide support to the departments in case they have any issues with students;
    • Answer questions students may have and help to solve issues;
    • Prepare and deliver employment confirmation letters to the participants who request it;
    • Translate and interpret in Japanese/English if necessary;
    • Assist with timesheets management;


  • Academic Background
    • University degree (Preferably Communications, Public Relations, Human Resources or related fields)
  • Skills
    • Advanced level of English (Japanese native or bilingual)
    • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Motivated and comfortable working with students and faculty;
    • Self-motivated, able to work alone (in virtual contact) with Madrid for several months;
    • Reliable and professional;
    • Quick learner and a hard worker;
    • Energetic, proactive and autonomous when required
    • Comfortable to work with Excel;
    • Social Media regular user; experience with content creation is an asset
  • Experience
    • Experience in the administrative field (or PR/coordinating roles), preferably at International companies or academic environments is preferable;
    • Organization or coordination of large events is an asset;
  • Other
    • Must reside in the city of Tokyo and have a good knowledge of the city
    • Available to work full-time and the possibility to adapt to a flexible schedule
    • Willing to adapt to peaks of work (during training in October and November work during weekends might be required)
    • Available to start immediately and work through the end of 13th of September 2020
    • Willing to travel as necessary
