LANGUAGE CENTER AND LIBRARY ASSOCIATE

Japan Society’s Language Center offers a variety of courses, workshops and intensives throughout the year in Japanese language, shodo (Japanese calligraphy), and English, among other specialized courses. The Language Center and Library Associate will perform daily operations related to the Center, and provide administrative support to the Director of the Language Center and Library.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitating and managing student registration and program administration;
  • Managing course and event schedules;
  • Updating records in various databases, including Raiser’s Edge, as needed;
  • Overseeing all Language Center interns and volunteers;
  • Responding to inquiries regarding the Language Center and its programs from current and prospective students;
  • Assisting with special Language Center events, activities, and projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent customer service skills, and comfort interacting with the general public;
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills;
  • Computer proficiency using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook email;
  • Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge database preferred;
  • Must be detail-oriented and excellent organizational skills;
  • High level of proficiency in Japanese language is preferred;
  • An interest in Japanese culture;
  • A minimum of one year administrative, clerical or other related experience required.

HOURS:

The Language Center and Library Associate is a full-time position with regular hours from 10:30 am until 6:30 pm, Monday-Friday, with an hour lunch break. On occasion, the Associate will be required to adjust their regular work schedule to accommodate special events, and to meet the needs of the department.
