DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

The Development Officer works as part of the Corporate Giving team to maintain and expand the corporate membership program while working closely with other Development staff on special events and other projects as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Corporate Giving to develop strategies for recruitment and retention of corporate members and program sponsors;
  • Arrange and participate in regular cultivation visits with existing and potential donors;
  • Identify and research new prospects;
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, proposals, marketing and benefits materials for corporate memberships and corporate sponsorships;
  • Cultivate corporate members to provide additional support by holding events at Japan Society’s landmark building, and providing corporate sponsorship of the Society’s cultural, educational, and policy programming;
  • Work with the Corporate Giving team to process and send out monthly renewal, upgrades, and solicitation materials to all corporate members along with follow-up;
  • Respond to requests for information via phone, email, and mail;
  • Steward donors and fulfill benefit requirements and requests;
  • Work closely with Development team to obtain corporate support and attendance at Japan Society’s annual dinner.

DIRECTOR, EDUCATION & FAMILY PROGRAMS

The Director, Education & Family Programs is responsible for all aspects of Japan Society’s Education and Family Programs. This includes positioning Japan Society as a leader in the field of US-Japan educational exchange. The Director is responsible for program operations, supervision of Education Department staff, and development of new program initiatives. Key programs include the Junior Fellows Student Exchange Program featuring study-tours for American and Japanese high school students, professional development workshops for K-12 teachers, promotion of and development of dedicated curriculum website for educators, “About Japan: A Teacher’s Resource”, on-site programs at New York City public and private schools, and public programs for families and children. The Director is required to take an active role in fundraising, and to collaborate with the Development Department on raising funds for Education Department programs. The position requires travel to Japan, and extensive communication with Japanese partners.
